Backfire when starting van

Thanks panky , could the loose wire from the oil sensor to the coil have caused it ? or maybe me reconnecting leads ect may have sorted it , I cant drive it until tomorrow so hopefully it's kinda sorted itself out , once again thank u

Its the luck of the Irish , and because I am Irish I had to have a bottle whilst sorting it out , that's why I cant drive it tonight unfortunately , thanks again

I've not long finished my birthday bottle of Bushmills, very nice :)
There shouldn't be a wire running from the coil to the oil switch. there's one from the coil to the distributor. The wire to the oil switch does appear out of the same wiring loom as the wires to the dissy, maybe that's what you saw but it won't cause a backfire if it's disconnected.

Ah Bushmills , I have never tried it , but there is still time , the backfire is still confusing me why it happened , that oilwire was the only loose wire that I noticed all others seemed good and tight, the loose one was the one that makes ur oil light come on when ignition is turned on , , I know u have been using millers for a long time with no problems , I just thought the first time I add it the van starts backfiring that it had made the fuel mixture a certain way causing it to backfire, hopefully it was just a loose wire that when I took them of and put them back on it sorted it , anyway thanks again panky

After about a month of having my first motorcycle I filled it up with fuel and it wouldn’t start. Couple of mates came down to help insisting that I had put the wrong fuel in. We drained it and refilled and still wouldn’t start so got it back to mine and another mate immediately said “2 stroke? Spark plug’s knackered”. He was correct. Taught me that coincidences can happen.
That and I have my own f@$k up fairly who is quite good at poking her nose in lol.

Good luck :). I remember when I spent days trying to figure out why mine wouldn’t start after winter. I replaced the condenser before trying to start it as that had been the reason last year. It wouldn’t start so though it might be the coil. New coil and still no spark. Fitted an electronic dizzy and still no spark. Got another coil and still nothing. Put old dizzy back on. In the end it the new condenser I fitted at the very beginning was bad. I blew the new electronic dizzy wiring it up wrong and hadn’t needed to buy the 2 coils. If I hadn’t started fiddling it would have started fine
I was advised once never to change the condenser. Just carry a spare. Preferably one you know works. Ie not new one. New ones not very good apparently.

I have since got new innards for the electronic dizzy and had it fitted when it went in for a service and safety etc check as I don’t bother getting it mot’d as this is probably more thorough.
