Old speedos can be optimistic but going passed the same roadside speed indicator on my way home from work it reads the same speed indicated on the speedo of my Focus as it does in Harvey's (and the Punto)
Either way on the old engine, all those years ago, it was 65 tops.

I've been fiddling again:I
After the test run last week I was convinced I'd got the carb tuned properly but...........When we went out on bank holiday Monday all wasn't quite well, the engine ran great on choke but push it right in and the old lump just died[V] I ended up running with the choke pulled out just a little to keep it running when driving at lower speeds and when negotiating the windy bits. I had changed and adjusted quite a few thing to stop the 'fluttering' so I decided to reverse a few of them - out came the extra dashpot spring but then I thought about when I was tuning the SU on the Mini It proved impossible to get the mixture right on tickover, it was always very rich so I dropped the needle a touch and that did the trick[^] The opposite was happening with Harvey so I did the reverse with the needle and pushed the spring holder further back into the slide - the engine started and ran on tickover but the revs took ages to settle back down when the engine was revved - I guessed the slide was being held up with the air flow so I put the extra spring back in and hallelujah he runs great right through the throttle range
And relax

Carbs do seem to annoyingly untune themselves sometimes till they settle

I am unable to do what you carried out, welding, engine, body, pieces of furniture, all were remade. Chases against time to be ready for the commerfest[8D], your photographsand experiment will help me much to repair my van[8D]. Long life with "HARVEY" and soon of your news.

It's been a while since Harvey had any titivation (been too busy using him[^]) but here where a couple of scabby interior bits that were annoying me, so he's had some inside lurve over the last couple of weekends.
Some of the wood work was still suffering from the effects of the damp he was exposed to while in hibernation[V] so I fashioned some new pieces out of the side of an old oak wardrobe.
First bit was the finishing trim at the back of the pop-top

It's quite a good match for what was there, a quick sand down and a lick of Danish oil brought ot up nicely, trouble is it does show the rest of it up:I
The cab was treated to a spruce up as well. The inside of the doors were painted with the same stuff I used on the rear doors, it's a Talbot commercial cream

To finish of the cab I stuck some black vinyl onto the side panels in the footwells

Just need to make a glovebox lid out of the oak wardrobe to hide all the crap:I

Looking sweet there Panky Harvey is lucky to have a dad like you. I love your Blue Peter approach to your work, you make things sound so much easier than what they are but at the same time manage to inspire others to try things out
