Looking very good Panky. With the Danish oil, what's the technique? Just rub on rub off, or is there any prep work? I'm thinking I should do the same to my interior to keep it looking fresh.

It's dead easy - rub the old varnish down with rough sand paper. mine was that old and brittle it didn't take long, and apply the oil with a soft cloth. The first coat soaked in so I put another coat on the next day to give it a nice satin sheen:)

Thanks Scott:) it looks OK in the pics but close up it's not so good. I developed a patting action with the flat of the brush to get rid of the brush marks that worked quite well and ended up with a sort of subtle textured effect. It will be hidden by the vinyl covers so I'm not too bothered:I

Well it worked well mate whatever you did;) and as you say, those covers will hide any imperfections from the purists. I must admit, up close, mine isn't the best, but then, using your driveway as a spray booth with no experience doesn't bode too well i suppose HAHAHA!

I love that you say you only had a few hours on it....and then do more than would take me a week/month :D. Saying that, you have been practising a bit longer ;).

[V][V][V]not a good day[V][V][V]

I started off sorting out the handbrake cable, the near side was very close to the new exhaust - easy fix just drill another hole in the bracket and now it's well clear.

It started to go down hill after that. I was worried that the clutch had stuck on the flywheel after so long sitting there so I decided to get the engine running and make sure everything was OK - first bleed the clutch as there didn't seem to be a lot of movement at the gearbox end. Easy job[xx(] I connected up my Easybleed and attached the pressure hose onto the front wheel (after letting most of the pressure out first)A jet of fluid shot up and hit the windscreen and dribbled down onto my freshly painted floor[V]. After mopping up I binned the old Easybleed (it was about 25 years old) and headed to Halfrauds for a new one. OK start again this time connect it up with out filling it with fluid another jet of fluid hit the windscreen - there was a pin hole in the top of the reservoir that I didn't see. Once repaired with a self-tapper I tried again, this time all was fine and the clutch travel looked OK.
Now to get the engine started:p A couple of gallons of petrol and a dash of additive were gurgled into Tim's shiny new tank, the Minis battery was nicked for the occasion and connected up - hit the button.......nothing - check wires on back of button and try again.....nothing. I finally traced the problem to a bad connection on the solenoid and tried again.

Yahoooo but that spigot bearing is noisy so the gearbox will have to come off anyway[V] Apart from that it sounded nice and my plumbing looked up to the task with no leaks and the temp gauge mid way between cold and normal. Then I spotted a little pool of water by No2 plug, I dabbed it away but it came back - it was dribbling down from the plug recess, looks like I've got a cracked head or it has corroded through the waterway[V][V]
Anyone got an ally head they want to part with.

Repairable....I don't know:I A little dribble up inside the sparkplug recess - couldn't be more awkward to get to with a welding wand. What do you think?
