The auto jumble supplied me with a vice (other than Commers and red wine):)

Behold the new workshop[^]................

It made life so much easier forming the jacking point and now that I've got myself a dirty big CO2 cylinder for me MIG the welding is so much better - the set struggles a bit on the thick stuff and splutters and spits when it's been on the go for a while. One down side is that I'm using wire like there's no tomorrow - well over half a reel to do this job [:0]

The new jacking point in place

And the closing plate once the inside of the box section had been flooded with Aquasteel

Next week the floor goes back in :p

I had a bit of a mishap:I I put that much heat into the metal I seem to have melted the rubber bush in the leaf spring mounting[V]

As a change from all this manly metal fabbing stuff I was trying to find some of the quilted vinyl that lines the van sides in an Autosleeper - I sort of ripped mine out in a flurry of interior stripping:I It became obvious that the original stuff is no longer available (unless anyone knows different) so I set about finding an alternative. The closest I've found is this.

Not perfect but I think it will look OK. A Google search eventually lead me to an American houseware type site - this is actually a table protector you put under the table cloth to protect the polished wood from heat and water marks. To buy enough from the site, with postage was a bit much to take a gamble so I checked out ebay - and got enough to do both sides of the van (2 of the larger ones on offer) for £11 - inc P&P:I. Its not as heavy as the original and has an open back exposing the polyester filling - but I'm sure it will stick OK with a dash of carpet spray glue or similar. I'll let you know how I get on:)

Thats a good word of warning that to people who are currently stripping their vans, that quilted vinyl is not available anymore, I ripped all mine out expecting to replace it with new. I scoured the internet trying to find it but to no avail. Be warned!

I started a search for quilted vinyl and came across this. Panky, is this you?
