Oh yes - the bulbous end need regular attention or crap and gunge will block it up and you can see the result [xx(]

Don't sqeeze your bulbous end get rid of it! On my van the water dripping from the fan box drain rotted the metal around the intakes, the solution was to route the pipe away from this area and out to underneath the van.

You'll need a bath waste assembly, (use the black flexi pipe) this pushes into a section of the original tubing, then connect the other end of the flexi to a lengh of 21mm white overflow pipe and route underneath the van, it all shoves together without any glue and does'nt leak, total cost under a tenner ( less for me as I'm a plumber!) I'll dig the digi camera out in a few days and try and post some piccies!

Great work, just goes to show almost any part can be repaired given time (and skill).
I decided to seal up the intake but keep the nice chrome grill. The heater can just draw its air from the cab. Plus it never really gets cold here :)

That looked remarkably like Frodos when we took it off! Althought our heater matrix was unblemished - typical the only imaculate thing in the van, and I don't want it!

I have decided to make my own heater! Thinking about it, if it's hot, we just open the windows, and when it's cold, why not just recirculate the air in the van? So I am going to buy a heater matrix from an Alpha Romeo http://www.discount-cooling.co.uk/Heater%20Matrix_D18035.html and six ultra quiet pc fans http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/80mmfans/zm-f1-plus attach the fans to the windscreen and passenger vent pipes in Frodo, bung the whole lot through a variable resitor, and voila a fully adjustable heater! The only thing I am keeping is the adjustable divertor from the radiator
 
It would have been a good idea to replace the heater with something else (I'm most impressed with Charlie's plans:p) but I wanted to give it a go. I remember someone saying that they had trouble with the screen constantly misting up until they unblocked the intake - the problem went away.

Ran out of metal so couldn't finish the repair[V] so spent the afternoon sloshing Aquasteel around and putting furniture back in.

Bloody murder getting it of your hands (mental note - wear gloves)
First time I've used it, initial impressions where that it was similar to the Loctite version but it seems thicker and coated very well - and is a lot cheaper. I've now got nice a black heater box:I and I spread it liberally around the inside of the rear roof edge before I put the lining back up.

THAT brings back some very horrible memories.Its still on the bench in the shed and STILL not quite finished and its only taken 18 months so far. I CAN'T even mention it by name.

great idea, i have done something similar in the rear of ralph for an extra heater with a vauxhall corsa heater matrix and two PC fans it is not very fast but takes the chill off enough to make winter driving possible..:Dand when parked up its under the bed so makes that toastie....
 
What am I messing around with the heater for - it's the middle of summer for heavens sake. It can wait so I decided to block Harvey's nose off for now - just need to cut the right size of hole when I replace the heater box.

I've started on the brakes, took one of the front cylinders off (brake pipe disintegrated[xx(]) and as you would expect it was seized[V] So I had it to bits and surprise surprise it was in pretty good nick - a quick hone of the bore with wet and dry and as good as new, it will make an acceptable spare[8D] I've got a full set of new old stock so I set about inspecting them. They where well greased up but stuck in the bores, loads of brake and clutch cleaner later all nice and clean ready to fit after a smear of silicone grease [^]

Spotted the tell-tail drip....drip....drip of water from the gearbox bell housing a while ago - hopefully just a core plug (again[V]) so set about stripping everything off to sort it - prop, exhaust, starter, gearbox (swine to get off this time) clutch and finally flywheel to reveal.......



Plopped it out and...yuck [xx(]



I scooped out all the gunk I could and ended up with what looked like a little pile of poo - luckily it didn't smell like it:I
While I was there I thought I might as well replace the bigger 'core plug' to the right of the other one. I soon found out that it's not a core plug at all but a welsh plug covering the end of the cam shaft[V] You live and learn and I suppose I haven't had any learning events for a while:I I had the foresight to get some replacements but as luck would have it I got the wrong size - oh well another self inflicted delay:)
