Back of the garage

Crikey Colin what time did you get to bed - were you celebrating a bit[)]

I'm a happy man[^] the weldathon I was expecting didn't happen - the box sections behind the water tank are just covered in surface rust but are sound :) So I spent a little time with the angle grinder chopping all the grott out of the floor around the jacking point and constructing a new one. Ran out of gas - AGAIN [V] I'm definitely going to sort out an alternative to the disposable cylinders tomorrow. Not much to show so I'll save the pics until I've finished the repair.

Panky. I got told off next morning lol (bloomin forum puts up times, dates etc)......lol damn useful when one wants it to be lool

Didn't sort out an alternative after all, found a fairly cheap supply of CO2 re-fills but need an old cellar gas cylinder to exchange[V] - bought a new disposable C02/Argon mix cylinder that lasted about an hour before it ran out - I think I've got a leak [V] Made most of the new jacking point - just ran out of gas before I could weld it on - along with the new floor section.

I'm going through disposable welding gas bottles at an alarming rate - this little job has taken three[:0]

The story so far......scuse the crappy welding - I must be using too much gas:I

A big hole waiting to be filled

Same hole - different angle

First bit on - although the original metal looks grotty it is solid, just surface rust:)

New jacking point constructed

Macker1 came up with this idea for a bit of added strength

Where it will be for a long time - hopefully:I

Floor section in place

As it is going to be covered up I didn't bother trying to re-create the floor corrugations. I marked the position of the box section below and drilled through the plate so I could plug weld through.

And after lick of paint who would know:) I found a dusty tin of Tekaloid undercoat at the back of a long forgotten shelf and it is a pretty good match for the original paint - I'll use it on the wheel arches in the cab to spruce them up[8D]

great progress panky [^] and strengthening the jacking point is a brilliant idea, they are a bit weak :)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Thanks Jimmy but we're going out for the day - I'll come round and see you one night next week - or you can come and check progress for yourself :)

good stuff there panky. Its nice to know whats inside your chassis sections! Did you paint the inside with "top coat" (non-porous) paint? Have you drilled some waxoyle holes - now its in good nick, best to keep it that way!

cheers

Good work Panky:D Made Cazz & I feel a little more comfy afert ripping the floor out of Bluebell today and seeing the lack of metal:(

Steady and relentless - the jobs list is getting smaller - I reckon I'm about half way there;)

Hiya Cazz, Bluebell will be just fine - I've no progress to report today coz I've been out with Barb blasting around North Wales in the Mini - a special anniversary treat (for us both :p)

My local Aldi is selling flux cored mig wire, a kilo for just under a tenner, unless it's me it seems to give better results than the normal Machine Mart stuff I used to buy.

Disposable bottles I've used in the past never seemed to last, one minute full the next empty! Plus I've always suspected they leaked when not used for a while, and dont forget to slosh a bit of aquasteel on that exposed metal and surface rust before you paint!
