wonderful noise that, well earned - thanks to Barb for humouring us eccentrics by filming the occasion, will have put one of the clips on the video jukebox - as sure is sweet music [^]
Panky you need to set that oil pump as it says otherwise you cant time it up properly i did the same years ago on my sunbeam rapier.
Could never get it to run perfect with its full power! Its so easy to do on the rapier engine the way it slots up into the block you need eyes everywhere! The manual is not to good on fitting the pump back in the block.Ive got an old dealer one in a binder i will see if i can dig it out.Do you have one?
Nice one for getting it running
Sorry Ollie - I'll be quieter next time:I Thanks Cazz
Hi Jon,
Interesting about the oil pump orientation - I would have thought it would have been OK to do as Martin suggests and move the leads around - but I bow to experience and will plan in dropping the sump in the near future.
Thanks again for the support guys - and a big thanks from Barb to you
So that's why it was knocking[xx(] Not lost a screwdriver after all or trapped any small mammals inside - a small oversight could have caused a big problem but the combined mind power of Macker1 and yours truly (well Jimmy really) sorted it out [^]
Spot the problem...
The eagle eyed among you will have noticed an unusual object by the side of the rocker on No7 inlet valve. It's the top of the push-rod - what the hell is it doing there[:0] The lock nut was good and tight so it was a bit puzzling why it had popped out. But then...
The spout on my modified rocker box is protruding a little bit too much, result is that the spring must have got caught on the lip holding the valve open, the gap between the push-rod and the rocker suddenly got very large and out popped the rod. The valve seemed to operate OK when the engine was turned over so I don't think it has been bent - it could have been a LOT worse [:0][xx(][V]
