Gloom and OH drama!!! [:0]
I'd hoped to get the engine running today but it wasn't to be [V]
Filled the engine and gearbox with oil - I did tell you lot to remind me but did you...no, a good job my memory as working at the moment :I
One of the jobs I was dreading was putting the gearbox oil in - all 5 1/2 pints of it with the overdrive - so I came up with a plan and it worked
I got an abutment plate for the carb so I didn't have to make up brackets for the accelerator and choke cables. I needed a new choke cable but I modded the accelerator one to fit - worked rather well[^]
So oil in everything connected up to spin the engine....oops forgot coolant:I but....[V]
I thought I had left the crankcase drain open - but no[V]
Undeterred a battery was connected and the ignition switched on and the dashboard lights came on for the first time in ten years

......what's that smell.....smoke from the dizzy [:0][:0] The wire from the live connection to the back of the points must have earthed and burnt out....bugger. Try again this time with dizzy disconnected...a few clicks as the start button was pressed and then the engine spun over freely, after a couple of revs the oil light went out and the starter definitely felt the extra effort needed to turn.
So oil pump looks OK

- anyone got any core plugs [V] I've got another dizzy I can cannibalise for the wire - trouble is I seem to have misplaced the wiring to the coil:I
