lol....your welding looks preety damned good to someone who wouldn't know one end of a welder to the other! a friendly neighbour welded our trailer up before we went away!

Come on Paul - how did you get on with the exhaust:p
I've been doing odds and sods for the last couple of days - haven't really achieved much. The inlet and exhaust manifolds are bolted up the fuel pump, dizzy and starter motor are on. On the down side my nice new clutch slave cylinder has a smaller thread so the pipe won't fit and I noticed that the steering box is leaking oil[V] bugger. Oh and the plug in the head for the heater valve is seized solid so I'll be without a heater for a while because I cant fit the valve from the Commer engine. Rather than risk butchering the plug I think I'll make a new thermostat housing with an extra take-off, thanks for the idea Commerjules[^]

better off without the valve anyway, use the heater as part of the cooling system in summer ;)
close to the big fire up then panky :p

I can hardly contain myself:) But there is a long way to go after that. It will be a milestone and, if all goes well, a big boost - but there are other targets to meet before Harvey hits the road.

Just need to make sure I don't gas myself - the BOTG is well ventilated, because it's made out of fence panels, but won't cope with an engine running for more that a few minutes (if I'm lucky:I) I think I might knock a hole thro' the wall and poison the wifes veg patch on the other side - better than poisoning me [xx(]

Better weld a couple more bends and a long straight onto your new exhaust to poke the end out the garage lol:)

You don't mention Mrs Panky very often, does she not share your love for Harvey[?]
 
You are very intuitive - that's basically what I had in mind - localised poisoning of the veg patch [}:)]

Mrs Panky (Barb)is very supportive - I'm sure she won't mind me gassing her rocket and carrots :I

Gloom and OH drama!!! [:0]
I'd hoped to get the engine running today but it wasn't to be [V]
Filled the engine and gearbox with oil - I did tell you lot to remind me but did you...no, a good job my memory as working at the moment :I
One of the jobs I was dreading was putting the gearbox oil in - all 5 1/2 pints of it with the overdrive - so I came up with a plan and it worked :)



I got an abutment plate for the carb so I didn't have to make up brackets for the accelerator and choke cables. I needed a new choke cable but I modded the accelerator one to fit - worked rather well[^]



So oil in everything connected up to spin the engine....oops forgot coolant:I but....[V]
I thought I had left the crankcase drain open - but no[V]



Undeterred a battery was connected and the ignition switched on and the dashboard lights came on for the first time in ten years :D......what's that smell.....smoke from the dizzy [:0][:0] The wire from the live connection to the back of the points must have earthed and burnt out....bugger. Try again this time with dizzy disconnected...a few clicks as the start button was pressed and then the engine spun over freely, after a couple of revs the oil light went out and the starter definitely felt the extra effort needed to turn.
So oil pump looks OK:) - anyone got any core plugs [V] I've got another dizzy I can cannibalise for the wire - trouble is I seem to have misplaced the wiring to the coil:I

ooohh, getting close now :p shame about the core plug :( easily available off the bay, if you know the size ;)
and dont forget to put some oil in :D

Sorted - 99p - got a couple just in case. Should they be fitted dry or do you use jointing compound - I've heard of Stag being used on them, is it necessary [?]

a big socket is a good drift, and a bit of sealant. no stag, the antlers get in the way :D

A mere flesh wound[^] Awkward to do - I do hope I haven't got to take the manifolds off again[V] - but on the face of it an easy job, one for a midweek evening methinks :)
