Used the conventional method starting with the furthest away and working back. I think it must be air trapped at a high point where the brake pipes turn up to the rear sub frame, by bleeding the rears to distraction some pedal pressure can be achieved but if I then bleed the fronts it all goes to s***e [V] I guess I'll just have to blow another two litres of fluid through the back nipples with the rear jacked up and the engine running [:0]
as it is a fairly late mini i would think its a diagonal split in which case its rear o/s first, front n/s,rear n/s then front o/s.
or if its a front to rear split then its a normal rear n/s rear o/s front n/s front o/s.
could also be the pressure reducing valve or pressure differential warning actuator playing up.
if not then try a big hammer and lots of swearing
"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off no.3"
The back end of the Mini is jacked up so high you can stand up underneath [}] but still didn't get rid of the air. Just got another (the fourth[:0]) litre of brake fluid so will have another go this afternoon.
Think we best all call round to yours for a bit of a help out, im sure the 'commerbined'(yes i hear your groans! ) effort would see the lil devil car exorcised of its demons [}]
Well another frustrating day and another half litre of fluid all over the floor [V]. Engine running, Eezy- bleed connected, wife pumping away like a demon and joy of joys a good hard pedal, just where it should be. So tidied everything up an was about to put car back in garage and pedal to the floor again [!]. I'm thinking it must be the master cylinder so I've ordered a seal kit - we'll see.
I did check and it looked fine but everything else is new or has been renewed in recent history - and no leaks - so I guess the suspicion must fall there.
I learned a lesson today [8)]
Did you know that Mini front brake callipers will fit either side? and if you fit them on the opposite side to what they should be you have trouble bleeding the brakes[8)]
Why I hear you ask - because the bleed nipple ends up on the bottom of course[!] The penny finally dropped and I swapped them round, bled them and voila - perfect brakes
It has cost me a new master cylinder and about 10 litres of brake fluid (I bought a 5 litre container this morning because the I was going through the 1 litre bottles like mad)and knacker paint on the front wing where I spilled some. Still I must have the cleanest brake system in the country and I've got plenty of fluid left when I do Harvey's brakes [:0]
nooooo! really feel for you. Thats sooooo frustrating. There was something about this in the instructions for the marina brake kit I fitted to molly - should have remembered!
Now the min-bin is on the road (ready for winter?!?) can Harv get a look in? Sorry to join Caz's badgering, but the piccies of him look so good and it has been a while!
Rupert
p.s. maybe you can go to the newforest in the mini?
I've just realised I renewed the front panel - prepped - sprayed - and rubbed the car down again about four times quicker than it took me to bleed the brakes :I
