Back of the garage

Got called into work so no progress today[V] But I've been gathering bits to sort out the leaking thermostat housing so hopefully tomorrow I will have a water leak-free engine[^] It will probably look like something from a plumbers merchants but it will be all my own work:I

Cool, just a polite reminder to Tim, this convo has reminded me you have a thermostat housing of mine to repair, I gave it to you at Coventry.....no rush at all, just a reminder mate, in the summer at Martin's will be great:D

Yes Colin, its sitting on the shelf, and despite soaking in dye-pen for days and a magnifier inspection, i can,t find anything wrong with it :)

Strange? I wonder if it was just leaking from the gasket but appearing to leak where I showed you?

Sorry panky, hijacking again lol:D

Didn't have a brilliant day today[V]
Finished wiring up the air-horns but the overdrive solenoid stopped working, I traced it to a faulty in-line fuse holder (that's the second one[xx(]) so I'm scrapping them and going for a fuse box instead. I've installed relays for the water pump, fan, OD and the air horns so its becoming a bit of a rats nest of wiring, the fuse box should help tidy things up a bit.
I made a new thermostat housing and fitted it - no more leaking gasket[^] but there is a tiny weep from the welded joint, I don't think my MIG is quite man enough to weld the thick steel it's made of so I'll take it into work and get a stick on it.
There was a little bit of bubbling on the fluted panel over the nearside rear wheel arch so I started prodding[V] Needless to say there is a bit more welding involved than I anticipated[xx(] Another weekends hot work to look forward to:)

you make my ramblings seem rather feeble in terms of cleverness:D
Do you have a picture of your DIY housing?

Charged the camera up and took a pic of the stat cover.

Its welded on the inside of the flange as the bend was a bit too close to get the welder in.

Had a busy few hours in TBOTG with mixed results. Bagged an over the top fuse box of ebay with plenty of spare connections - only used three of the twelve available.

From left to right we have relays for lekky pump, lekky fan, overdrive and air-horns.

I re-welded the thermostat cover and fitted it, guess what - no leaks [^]

As Tim says its heavy duty so hopefully it will last a while:I

Trial fitted the repaired front engine cover after sawing off one of the original bottom fixing bolts that was siezed in - not a bad fit.

It will need a bit of fettling on the bottom corners to make it seal properly but they should tap into place once everything else is bolted in place. I took it off again to fit the new seal I got off Martin and to drill some new holes for the securing screws. While I was at it the inside got a good coat of underseal - good for sound deadening, I'll fit it tomorrow.

The little repair above the rear wheel arch sort of grew:I
This is the lower skirt after half an hour with a bolster chisel

I had to remove it to get to this

Most of the lower panel is solid it's just the joint between that and the inner cill that's knackered. Cutting disc time:)

Forgot the pic of the modded gear knob with OD switch in place, just needs a lick of varnish to finish it off.
