I'm liking the crossmember design neater than mine - if I find myself doing a version II that could be the way to go.

Cheers chaps, I couldn't believe my luck when the prop fitted like that:D It makes sense really - if that overdrive unit had ever been destined for factory use in a Commer that it stands to reason they wouldn't want to make a special prop.

Not worried just missing commer contentedness..he does spoil me as & when [^] my friend asked me wouldn't you rather have a nice dress...I get piper cams & lightened fly wheels :pheavy duty batteries [:0]

Panky - I'm really impressed - wish I'd thought of doing that with the gearbox. It would have saved all manner of faff and it looks so much neater. Nice one.

I've been a bit pre-occupied with enjoying myself camping remember, but..................
I bagged an electric fan off eBay, nice scoopy curved blades like the latest Kenlowe's and set about fitting it - dead easy:I
A sucker is more efficient than a blower so it had to go behind the rad.

I dug out my ancient arc welder and stuck a few pieces of 1" X 1/4" flat bar together.





For the fan to clear the water pump the rad needed to move forward a couple of inches so the position was altered using stud bar and lots of washers.



It's a tight fit, I thought I'd better try it with the pulley in position :I Must remember to put the fan belt on before I bolt everything up.




The Commer rocker cover won't fit the Rapier head and the oil filler cap on the Rapier cover is too long - it fouls the bulkhead - so a hybrid is the answer. I sacrificed the Commer cover for the good of the cause [8)]



Soldered a piece of metal over the old filler hole, just need to attach the filler in its new position.

Well not quite...the finished article with spout welded up and tube for breather added..not forgetting the baffle on the inside to prevent oil pouring out of the vent. The colour isn't quite as disgusting as the pics suggest - it's the same as I used on the Mini head :I

Looks like a pretty good job to me;)
I must admit I've had a go with an arc welder but the results soon put me back with the MIG.

Panky, With that tiny gap between fan and pump, is there not a risk of contact under heavy braking? ie, a bit of flex in the engine mountings?
Oh, 'eck, I forgot, Commers don't go fast enough to do heavy braking, do they?
 
Any progress is good - but sometimes I do regress and that isn't so good....but I'll get there in the end:)
The Mini is demanding some attention at the moment - a blown exhaust manifold gasket and an oil leak that could keep an Arab oil field in production indefinitely[V] Came home from a (shortened) day out and the oil was dripping off the rear mud flaps it was that bad[xx(] I was wondering why the rear screen was misting up - it was clean fresh oil, the cars behind seemed to keep their distance:I
