axles

hi i am thinking of changing the rear axal on my van so its better geard i know that a p5 axle is the one to use but i havent got one or know where there is one but i have been thinking would a ford p100 one do???

That might be possible have you had a measure up of the widths of it and where the springs mount?? Also think the stud pattern is the same as there 5 stud also with same pcd :D[8D]

I do have Glyns' mk III P5 which I've been slowly breaking, all the big bits still there and attached which would need to talk to Glyn about how he wants what's left sold - had been planning to sell with engine, box, transmission etc as a rolling chassis (would need its' wheels on to dispose of it) - so not sure if of any interest but if not would be happy to measure anything on there for you to see if P5 sizes any use to you. We're in sunny Cardigan, West Wales - car is a '67 auto coupe:)

Bessie - four star commerdation

We are behind the back of beyond - still happy to measure what we have here if it helps you decide if it's gonna fit if you find another one.;)

Bessie - four star commerdation

It will definately fit as thats what JAY (WILLS PRACTICAL CLASSICS FEATURE)has fitted to it!! :)

p100 axle is a heavy duty atlas, its a monster with 10mm wall tubes, big brakes and commer pcd, ratio is 4.6:1. not sure on exact width though :)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off no.3"

just to add to wot racer put being an atlas axle there are several diffs that will fit to give you the optimum ratio for you ...have a look at my pics (dozers photos )

I recon it will be sound whats the width of a commer one??
Are you measuring that fom inside back of drums or outside where wheel fits??:);)

Nissan Cabstar is what I am using. It is almost identical track and is very strong. This diff is used in lots of Japanese vehicles. Nissan Terranos / Ford Maveric (same vehicle),Toyotas.
There is also a limited slip diff which is the one I want.
Ratios are not particularly high but maybe higher than standard commer. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head.
Have a look in readers ride under 'Greanbean 1' for some pictures.
