Agree with you completely. I've always made my cars my own to make them more usable, comfortable or to keep them on the road.
I do believe that "your car, your rules" applies, but it is a shame if that car is something special to start with.
Personally, I tend to modify my vehicles, but equally I love to see original examples of pretty much anything. The only exception I would have is if it was a very rare special edition and was then being modified beyond recognition. In that case why not start with a standard/base model?
I have various other motors, some original (Manta A series) some completely modded (Manta with Omega V6 engine, box and cosmetically fairly different), but usually I like to do more subtle alterations.
I don't like the idea of completely destroying the character or look of a car. Otherwise it may as well be something different in the first place. I prefer what would usually be referred to as "tasteful mods". Freshening up the looks, tweak handling, performance etc.
In this Commer's case I suppose as long as the original box was kept it could always be put back in in the future if one so wished.
How much is involved in converting one of these to a manual?
