Are all Front Springs the Same?

I've been reading some of the lowering threads and I was wondering if all front springs are the same. Seeing as cutting the coils is the way to get the front down. Do chassis cabs have heavier duty front springs? What about the later Dodges? Did they get any suspension upgrades?

As far as I know only the rear springs where uprated for the heavier duty chassis (2500) Later vehicles are fitted with a thicker anti-roll bar and I think that was it as far as the front end goes, someone may know different.

All the same. Some PO vehicles were fitted with spacer rings, to get more lift.

Interesting. So presumably you could use spacers to fine tune the ride height on a lowered van?

Quite unstable enough without raising the ride height I m o.
I'm not a fan of cut springs, they are not legal here anyway, but they set up all kinds of stresses in the springs they are not made for. Much better to get some shorter ones made and increase to rate a bit as well. Just my .02 $ ....

I just need a good rootes...

havent had a good look yet but could you not just raise the mounts slightly? surely that would drop it a bit. i like dolly's ride hieght but i would like to stiffen her up a bit

Totally agree with Iceman, cutting springs is a botch job [xx(]
You can lower slightly by putting spacers between the wishbone and spring platform, or get some suitable springs made ;)

i was always told "Never cut springs, if you cant do it properly, leave it the hell alone" pearls of wisdom from paul cloke senior. my m8 did it once on his mk4 escort and wrote it off big time 2 days later

Ok so Demon Tweeks are offering Eibachs for £54.95 each ex vat. Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to what free length and rate would be required for a four inch drop?

I don't think you could get a 4" drop with just shorted springs without them becoming loose on the re-bound. The unladen length of an original is 13.24" and 10.6" under static laden load. Probably best to go for a 2" drop and put some low profile tyres on.
The spring rate is 663 lb. in.

Springs are pretty cheap to get made up anyhow. got a full set of 4 done for my mark 1 celica from scratch. Chose the rate and height drop £156 all in from a place in sheffield. can post the number if required. Was
also wondering if anyone has fitted parabolics to the rear to get a drop on the back instead of flipping axles and moving hangers?

Hasta la supervista baby

Cheers for the info Panky. I don't suppose you know the internal diameter (I think they mean the size of the hole in the middle of the spring)of the standard springs do you?

Just delved into the manual again, and you though it was all in my head;).
Outer diameter of spring is 4.68" (118.8mm) and wire diameter is 0.7" (17.8mm) so I guess the inside diameter of the spring is 3.28"
