arc welders and mig

hi guys, whats the differance please? just wondered as my bro just offered me a brand new arc welder with mask and rods for £30 will arc welder be suitable or not?

Not really, meant for thicker steel than car bodies. A real expert could probably do it with patience but stick to the mig

You need a bit of skill and some 1.6mm rods for arc welding. MIG is very easy to learn and better suited to bodywork :)

Might be worth your while to sign up for a welding course. I think they run them at the college at Colchester. I did a Saturday course at the West Suffolk College and found it invaluable. They dealt with the theory and the practice. I think the Colchester college runs car restoration courses as well.
