Anyone got an automatic to sell?

Hi there
I'm a new member, just signed up. I have fallen in love with Commers (as has everyone on this forum I guess!) and am hoping to find one with an automatic gearbox. Has anybody got one that they might consider parting with?

Welcome Karen. Autos do exist... One sold recently. But I'm happy to say mine is a manual and therefore free from your search. :p

Welcome and do stay a while... Good luck in your search.

Yes. It took me nearly a year to find mine. You ought to try getting to Tatton Park at August Bank holiday where Commer friends meet at a car show. Also many of us would welcome you for a cuppa and a look round a can or two... If only you ask... Where are you based?

We're in Cambridge but a trip up to Tatton Park isn't out of the question. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good plan!

I believe the Auto trans is a very common Borg Warner 3 speed and was used in may cars in the 60-80's not sure if Auto vans have a bigger bell housing but i dont think so, Only real challenge i can see is the linkages, The original is cable operated dash mounted selector, also needed is correct torque converter and prop shaft. You would also install a neutral safety switch to the starter.
Martin would probably have everything you would need or the advice anyway.

Tim (commerracer) might be able to help. He has already engineered a Lexus 6 speed manual gearbox conversion. He might be able to engineer a modern auto swap?

Or an auto v8 Kermit's for sale later dodge at 11 000 a bit of a bargain as he has had a lot more spent on him,,,,Paul curry said he was going g to sell his not sure if he did fully restored so will be high end iirc that is auto? Good luck keep your eyes peeled there are a few Commers in & around Cambridge.

Mine is auto (Borg Warner 3 speed reconditioned) fancy finishing off a project?

Surely you wouldn't sell John?
There are a few autos about, but not many. BW 35, the one I sold last year was very smooth and no slower. I spoke to a guy from Glasgow at the weekend, he has an auto Jennings which I've never heard of before.

I love mine being an Auto, The selector is extremely robust and i like slapping it up and down through the gates on hills etc and when towing. feels like im driving a semi auto Leyland Tiger Cub. Great fun.:D

Thanks for being so lovely and helpful everyone. Yes, would consider a project, though totally ignorant of how to go about restoring!!! I guess that's the fun though - finding out. As long as she's running and we can bring her safely back to Cambridge :)

truth is I'm not using it and it will rot - would rather have it shown some more love
