Any recommended mechanics SE England??

Hey All,

I am about to take the (wanderer 1967) old girl down to Italy to live! The van is in Belgium at the moment, but i have trouble finding/trusting a mechanic that can work on her. I need a few things doing, First of all it's only running on 3 brakes so the rear left brake needs replacing ( my brother in law had it, and the rear axle was changed and during the change the brake was apparently broken), I also want to change the carburettor, get help fixing the roof (the father in law drove it and the wind blew the roof right off , the roof is ok but i need new rails and maybe seals). Also the windows leak so ideally new seals for the long rectangle windows at the back. In general the van need a good looking over before the take the long ride. I'm avoiding the alps as don't want to put the old girl through too much so south of france and down to Rome it will go..1200miles!

Any helps or tips would be great as would like to start my journey in 3 weeks. Ideally a mechanic near the euro tunnel area would be amazing!

Lesson learnt don't hand over the van to your in-laws :D;)

Hi and good luck with the repairs etc. Martin at Commervanspares and speedyspares are well worth contacting for finding parts rubbers etc. Try Martin first.

Thanks Gladys Crew and S0updragon for your tips and advice. I've been in contact with Martin getting some needed replacements parts. Thanks for sharing your travel journal Gladys, i will make sure i do the same and keep a journal of the journey. :)

Hi there,
Sorry cant help with a mechanic, But good luck with your trip, 3 week isn't very long to sort your wonderer,
We embarked on a long trip last year see link.

We spent 3 months getting Gladys ready for the trip and she didn't need much work to get her ready just checked and double checked everything.

Please post pictures would love to see your van

It was good reading your blog, i also see you had your roof repaired. I looked on the blog but the photos were no longer there. I need help with new rails and new seals. Do you have any tips or photos that you could share. Many thanks!!

Hi Solar
I would speak to Martin M first as I know he was braking a wanderer a couple of years ago and may still have it for the rails and he should be able to source the seals, I will look for some photos and post them again.
