Bought a Jennings towards the end of last year, might as well start a readers rides thread I guess

Haven’t really touched it until the last couple of weeks, the back of the camper & floor is rotten, decent amount of work to do around the cab, doors etc. Doesn’t currently run alright it turns over fine, have bought a hif carb for it, ordered some window seals from oz and had a few pokes around to try and see what’s what
I’ll add some photos when I’m next on the laptop, can’t seem to upload them from my phone the files are too large

Cheers

Andy

arrived in November, it went under a caravan cover and left untouched until a few weeks ago. we set about having a look around inside and seeing what we could find. Came across a little blue book with loads of history and notes etcIMG_1441.jpeg5D64AA63-713F-439E-AC56-A7B56661FFB6.jpeg

set about the back door, knew it was completely rotten. got it all apart, unfortunately smashed the handle/lock getting it apart, the skin is ok. I've ordered some larch to rebuild with. Im aware I can get hold of the handle/lock from New Zealand, I might remake the recess out of steel though depending how I feel

engine turns over but doesn't start, have got some new fuel hose and I'll replace that and blow the tank outlet through as I think its blocked. Not currently got spark either so I'll check all the fuses, give the points etc a clean. HIF carb is in the garage, I'll modify the manifold to fit that and I'll make a new one out of stainless steel(plus an exhaust manifold) in the future, I've got boxes of suitable sized bends to work with

when I glue it together with a bit of cut n butt and tip the edge that should be about right.
that's how we stand currently :) I'll get it on the drive shortly and try doing a bit more. Be good to get it running at least before too long. Was plannig to swap a vw 1.8t & 8hp gearbox into it, but I've enough going on rebuilding this and my ax completely from a bare shell so could really do with making this a bit simpler and cheaper to rebuild!

That's an excellent bit of panel beating. Although badged as a Dodge, the spare front end is exactly the same as a Commer PB front dating from before they modified the design to the Spacewagon. It should be a straightforward swap.

Haha wouldn’t say expert! Learning as I go, my ax is getting hand made steel wide arches as I couldn’t find anything I liked off the shelf. Metal shaping is quite simple, it’s just realising and working out what happens elsewhere when you tweak something. I’m probably 150+ hours of work into 1 front wing and it’s not even welded together yet. That engine cover was driving me mad, turned out i wasn’t bending it the correct way to tighten the radius as I wanted

I ended up using AI to lower the photo resolution (-30%) small enough to add to the forum by the way. Used google Gemini app for reference
