Another Aussie Commer

Hi all

I was working in the shed yesterday when I noticed someone coming down the drive and was presently surprised to find out that he too had a Commer and had been meaning to drop in as he often drives past and sees my Van parked in the front drive. His name was Scott, not sure if he mentioned where in Sydney he lives, but was asking if I had a spare motor and gearbox. I explained that mine had no motor or gearbox when I bought it and that I was going with a Nissan set up.

It appears that he has a 65 Bus with all the glass steps etc, auto with a Holden 6 fitted and was having problems with registration as it didn't have the original motor, even though it was last registered with the Holden motor and detailed on the Rego papers. I will be looking into this further for my own sake in the near future.

Interestingly his bus has a Holden Commodore rear diff fitted, one of the options I looked at until picked up the 2 Navara diffs for $20. Scott also mentioned a few other Commer's he had come across in the Hunter Valley region of NSW, again all without motors and gearboxes. It seems a common story, god knows where they went. He was unaware of this forum and I advised him the web address and said join up as there are a few other Australian owners on the forum that might be able to help out.

Scott's other cars were Austin Kimberly's and the Iconic Leyland Australia P76. If you don't know the P76, Google it, and yes, it's true you could fit a 44 gallon drum in the boot, but no one could ever imagine why you would want to!

So Scott if you read this, thanks for dropping in and join the madhouse, we know you're out ther somewhere.

Cheers Stephen

Not Leyland's finest hour, if you ask me. If ever there was one..

I put a jap 5 speed in mine [ a waste of time and money as it will not pull it except on a down hill] so if he wants my gearbox he can contact me on 94195774 , motors are easy to find . an overdrive would have been better not such a big jump from 4th to 5th.
