We all went for a nice cruise today to the East Kilbride Classic car show, we were in the carpark unfortunately not in the show, but we had fun none the less.

Anyway I fixed the temperature gauge last week and have been worried ever since that she is overheating, and as expected the gauge went up - but what is normal? Crafty motorway camera work (and a wife with long arms..)

Hi,

That is exactly the same temperature that mine reads. Never had any overheating problems yet though and mine's been on quite a few long runs in hot weather

At the weekend Frodo spent the whole journey to Warwickj and back a bit higher than that, but just under the red. I was quite worried, but speed didn't seem to matter. I did find however that when I freewheeled down a long hill the temperature shot right down to under halfway, so I don't think he can have been that hot!
 
thats nothing sybhils needle was past the red and almost out of sight several times [:0]

Again mine used to ride at the temp yours shows, and again like Chasbaps van, downhill coasting used to take it back down in the 'safer' red reading.These vans tend to become tempreturemental little buggers at times oi reckons...i think they like to put the FEAR into you haha!..

paul thats an excellent sumary,but Rans use to stay about where the pic shows!sometimes a little lower,damn electrics [|)]

my guage reads 100 but i think that once you work out what is normal for your van and gauge then you can relax .... you will soon know if you are overheating and if you have the original engine then you wont do much damage . i speak from experience i have boiled over 3 times once when the fan belt broke, and twice when a heater hose went on a journey
 
i gave sybhils rad a major flush out last night [^]
what i did find was interesting, the wire from the temp sender was very close to the exhaust manifold and has been melted through so my theory is at slow speed it misses the manifold and when you speed up the increased draught from the fan/G force from acceleration [:0] (delete as applicable) pushes the wire back to earth out on the manifold causing the scary readings, especially as the engine showed no overheating symptoms.

sybhils home, and the verdict is........ we have the coolest commer around [^] she runs with the needle just off the red at the cool end, so it seems my theory was correct [8D]

Hi when i picked up RAN the Van and drove home 110miles the gauge was reading about the same as yours and had no problems NICK
