I’ve just replied.I've sent you a PM
Hi thank you, no it’s not local to me at all so I’m getting it inspected then will have to get it transported to my mechanic so won’t see it myself until then, which is very scary. I have had some advice on it through Panky so now it’s wait and see what the inspection says, I’m keeping everything crossed. Is it local to you? An inspection will hopefully put your mind at ease and hopefully give you an idea of what areas are really bad etc. if you can get pictures and stick them on here for people to see etc. This was my first post seeking advice which may help
Advice Please (SOupdragon)
hi all sorry but i have no idea how to navigate a forum. There is a pb camper 1972 for sale i'm really interested in but i know v littel about them. Are they high maintenance? My car history is disastrous so any info greatly appreciated. Thanks daveforum.commervanfan.co.uk
I do have an oldskool mechanic and another one (not dealt with them before though) who deals in classic cars just round the corner so it wouldn’t have been an issue. I’m just annoyed at how this seller has messed me around. I’ve enquired about another van (not a commer) but they haven’t bothered getting back to me. I’ve noticed sellers aren’t always helpful when selling vehicles they don’t always tell you if it’s auto or manual in their ads and often don’t get back to you it’s getting very frustrating now but I will persist and find something even if it ends up not being a classic.Yep move on, not meant to be. Go for one you can see and in the best condition you can afford, truth is when it comes to bodywork you can easily throw thousands also these vans and as much as I love em many can require regular maintenance and a bit of knowledge unless you have a good local oldskool mechanic.
Annoying for you. Best think about what you want the van for, if it’s fairly regular camping trips away going quite far or more local stuff/car shows. Only my opinion and If it’s the former and you’d like a classic I’d probably recommend getting the next generation of vans that came along in the 70’s/80’s (transit, Sherpa, Bedford CA etc.) bit easier to drive, work on and more reliable. We take our Commer to France most years but it takes a bit of work/ tools and courageI do have an oldskool mechanic and another one (not dealt with them before though) who deals in classic cars just round the corner so it wouldn’t have been an issue.
