Aluminium window frames

The window frames on my highwayman are quite dull and stained. I would like to get them back to a nice apperance but not sure how. I think they were originally anodised finish. A bit hessitant to go at them with any kind of power tool for fear of ruining what little of the finish is left. Any ideas anyone?

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...

Once the anodising has been breached the normal aluminium 'tarnishing' will tend to spread or just look bad. I had the same issue on my Frogeye windscreen frame. I had the anodising removed by a plating company then just polished the frame with Autosol every now and then. If you don't want to remove your frames maybe just give them a good polish with something like Autosol?

I've got the same problem with my side window frames, They are out at the mo as i'm waiting for new glass, I put the da sander over mine with some 500 paper and I am quite pleased with the finished look. But i'm not to sure how to protect them , I have wondered whether going straight on with laquer will work? other wise like baz says keep on top with the autosol

Any covering when breached by a stone chip etc will start to look bad very quickly and no amount of cleaning etc will make it look 'uniform'. Take it back to bare ally then polish it regularly or let it 'go' naturally. that way it'll be uniform and will always polish up nice.

you could lap mop them ,then just polish with mirror finish polishing soap on polishing wheel(obviously you will need to remove frames and windows.

another way to make them look nice and stay nice for a long time is to have them powder coated in your choice of colour(i'm toying with getting mine done in black as my colour scheme is green & black.

We cleaned Harvey's frames up with a scotchpad and Autosol, lots of elbow grease needed but they came up well[8D]
