Anyone any experience of fitting alternative seats? Modern, cheap, buckety. But period of course...[:eek:)]

experience of mgf seats in the riley and bmw ones in the mini but no commer yet, i am sure with enough improvisation anything will fit :D

Hi

I fitted 1992 rover Metro front seats in the front of my Commer Highwayman,i managed to make up brackets and fit them on the original front frame after taking the runners off the Metro seats.
Not everyones taste but they are very comfy and look ok .

I was thinking the same about Mini seats. I've got a Herald seat that looks pretty good as well, trouble is it's badly ripped [xx(] but it does look the part and wouldn't take too much work to make it fit.

interest subject! frodo has seats from what we think is an 80s fiesta right chasbaps? that makes them a little too high in the cab for driving and chasbaps was thinking of coming to you jules to see whether some thin based mini seats would work a treat?
 
I had the Mini (91 Cooper) seats 'resting' in the van for a while and they felt about right, although the herringbone type pattern wasn't quite in keeping, but earlier vinyl or later leather ones would look good.

I know that at least one chap, and I think 1 other has bought seats from me to fit in a Commer - shame I didnt keep a record of who they were. I was wistfully hoping that someone could tell me which of RatSport's seats would actually fit / look good...:I

Frodo's seat are very comfy and adjustable, but they are simply too thick! The depth of the seat base and the sliders means that my eye level is slightly above the top edge of the windscreen! This leads to either, a very uncomfortable slouch while driving, or only being able to see the road 15 yards in front. Actually, this is more view than you really need in a commer anyway!!!

I am looking for something with a shallow base that's adjustable, but it's right down my list of priorities atm.
 
I've heard that Rover P6 seats fit into a Mini, so...if Mini seats fit a Commer, should it not follow that the P6 seats will also fit a commer??
 
P6 an interesting thought - did have some here that went with the P6 resto project we had. Didn't try them for size van wise but lugged 'em about a few times - sumptuous cream vinyl (cut from the finest plastic cows) would definitely have looked the period part. Difficult to say how well they'd fit - fairly neat compared to the P5 leather wingback chairs we have (hoping to use them for furniture at some point) so could well be possible.

Will persevere with deluxe bum-numbers in Bessie as would lose my extra single bed/double bed extension if I got fixed seats - oh well, back to getting out for a brisk walk every 30 miles to regain circulation:D

I sorted my seats out OK. Thanks to everyone. Still pondering what to do about a centre seat. Ive been trying for ages, dont think I will ever get an original centre seat.
Anyone found a good solution to this problem?

i have an original middle seat in my panel van in good nick as well i think in black vinyl or leather.i will check tomorrow. how badly do you want one.[?]:D;)

Good value, retro look and next day delivery! Would suit a child as the squab is shorter that the orignal centre seat.

I fitted it over the engine using "slide off" hinges so I can remove the seat and still get under the cover. I fitted a new seat belt using the existing fittings.

what seatbelts have you used? we are looking to replace ours to some inertia ones?

You can buy inertia lap belts on e-bay, these fit onto the existing belt points either side of the rear of the engine cover.

I have fitted a three point inertia belt, the raer of the driving cab has been altered from original to accomodate a bunk above the cab. The Third mounting point is attached to the frame which holds all this up.
