air suspension would it help

was thinking about the old suspension on ralph as he bounces around and the cups rattle. would air suspension give me the following ?

1 make it a smoother ride with less roll
2 adjustable ride height
3 allow me to get level on uneven campsites

Just a thought, it appears on some websites that this can be done however I was hoping wondering if anyone had any knowledge or experience they would want to share with me ?
 
the biggest problem with commers is the back end :I the leaf springs are unable to cope with small bumps as well as hard ones, they have to be fairly hard to cope with the loads, but then they aren,t sensitive enough for small bumps. its the same for any leaf sprung vehicle.
the other problem is the only thing locating the axle is the leaf springs [xx(] so it walks about alot.
adding a panhard rod will locate it across the van and link bars will hold it in line.
also the lack of a rear anti-roll bar doesn,t help [xx(]
no experience of air suspension, so i cant really comment on that :)

I wonder if there's a company out there that can make up sets of parabolic leaf springs for Commers at a sensible price? That would be a good way to go without making big modifications.

I don't know a great deal about air suspension, but I think it would be firmer than the current set up and yes, probably less roll. Ride hieght would be adjustable, to what degree would depend on how the system is put in. You can idependently control the height of each wheel, but a system like this would be more complex and cost a lot more than one than raises all corners simultaneously.

You can can you? That's excellent. I've only done 50 miles odd in my Commer so I can't comment yet on the suspension, but so far I have been rather impressed... that view could change once I start to use her properly and I might be giving you a shout!

what are high wall tyres ? and what do they achieve ?
 
High wall as in high profile, or rather standard profile, as in a van tyre rather than a car one. The sidewall will absorb a lot of bumps, I think commers handle better on highish profile tyres rather than the 70 profile which quite a few vans seem to be fitted with. I do not what they were originally factory fitted with, it may even have been crossplies which have natural highwalls.

Just to confirm that you are correct - ours was supplied with crossplies and retained them throughout our ownership.
