was wondering as not very clued up to all this if it would be a good idea to try and see if i can get the engine turned over first. if so i have a wee problem having lost the keys. will i need a new ignition switch and where i can get one or any other ways
also the altinator was knackered last i used it so is it possible to get them or is it worth trying to fix it
thought id change the oil and filter too
think im kidding myself lol

Put the battery on charge or replace it with a known good one.
Alternator - take it to Halfords and they should be able to supply a recon one and take yours as part-exchange.
Remove, clean, gap and refit the plugs. Drag a small piece of cardboard through the points in the dizzy to clean them. Clean the inside of the dizzy cap. Make sure the plug leads aren't perished, if they are replace them. Make sure there is oil and water in the right places. Pop a couple of gallons of fresh petrol in the tank. Then give it a whirl but don't expect miracles!

I'm sure someone could tell you how to bypass the ignition while you wait for keys...Might be a good idea if they PM that info to you though....we don't all our vans hot wired and driven off into the sunset LOL
i think it would be sound advice to install an inline filter in the fuel line inbetween the pump and carb, especially as it has stood for so long (only a couple of pounds from any motor factor (including Halfrauds)
If Halfords ask what car it's off tell them a 1986 Mini - its the same one, they will look blank if you say a Commer:I (worth a try though)

You will need to take the pulley off before you take it, they will have trouble getting it off with a set of pushbike spanners[V]
I just sent you an email with advice regarding hot wiring your ignition circuit - let me know if you need more help. Not that I am a hot wirer by trade - but I do vehicle wiring and electrics.....
ive got myself a filter for the fuel line between the pump n carb but how would i go about putting one on the metal pipe coming from the tank is there special filters for this or just cutting and putting rubber pipe in?
Personally, if the pipe to pump connection is all metal I'd cut out a section of pipe (about 6 inches) and replace it with a filter, two pieces of pipe and some clips. Just make sure the open ends of the pipe remain round and don't get crushed and also make sure there are no sharp edges or burrs left.
