There seem to be a few Puntos lurking behind the scenes. My wife has a 1994 Punto Cabrio. I've just put a new bonnet on that, but not because she has hit anything. The laquer was failing and I was quoted over £200 to get it resprayed. [:0] I picked up a replacement in the right colour for £10. [^]
ive just had a similar problem with a friends renault clio and it didnt register anything on the diagnostic and i found it was not only the crank sensor going faulty but the plug to it was corroded and not allowing a signal back to ECU to register fault, so if your going to change the sensor also have a good look at the plug to it. this is a common problem as oil/water gets into the plug, it warms and cools causing condensation that then rots the terminals.

Wont happen on the fiat though as the plug is mounted up high at the back of the cam cover.Also the plug is a lot better quality and more robust than the renault.The renault is mounted on the top of the gearbox on the fly wheel end,its exposed to all sorts of crap and the loom is very short. If you buy a none genuine replacement it usually comes with the plug and some heat shrink soldered joints to chop and join the loom

We repaired my father's 95 red Astra front denting by sourcing correct colour panels at the local breakers too, bonnet, wing, headlight, £40 and no spraying or welding to do, all bolt on
It's fixed it was the crank sensor! Bit of a story though....
My son rang a mobile mechanic who couldn't come straight out as he was going to the St Julians area to look at car to buy. 'That's the area I live in', said my son 'wherabouts'? Turns out it was his address as the mechanic had arranged to view his girlfriends car which was for sale on ebay. We've always suspected that their communication could be better! [}]
Upshot was that my son got his car fixed, his girlfriend sold her car and I don't have to fix it at the weekend.
