Aardvark & IOW Commer

Ok so Beach Boy has got to me through another topic on Andy Thowmans rewiring on Regs Commer Bluebird, ( I want mine done next !!what a Job his done) Beach Boy said there was a thread on The Aardvark, I can find one on the Commer York in the IOW , This by the way was owned for many years by Dave Collings from Wales, It was a special made for the director of Lucas, Well back to the thread Martin thought the "Long green Commer stuck in a garden" Was in Fact "A" Aardvark , No its a Hadrian I went to see it to buy oh so many years ago , the son had been using it to sleep in , so much rot in the floor and all over never move it, it was just the same as another Hadrian I went to see in Scarborough even more years ago dry rot , floor was turning to power as I touched it , I went to see it for someone else , Anyway The ONE and Only Aardvark ( or as its known "Piggy" ) as there was only one made , If anyone is interested I do have all its history enc the link with George Orwell !!!

just found the other thread , That's a memory, I remember I brought a scarf from the Lady !! she sold Pashminas, ! and yes it wasn't a Hadrian , I went by the rear end, I had a chat with Martin over it all those years ago , He knew what it was, it was the length that was wrong for a Hadrian , Im sure Martin Watts will correct me and put it right , What he doesn't know about Commers isn't worth worrying over , Oh the memory's of finding Commers in so many places up and running , going to Peterborough, Shepton Mallet, Brands Hatch, Detling, shows and just watching all the Commers come in , and rushing round the show ground to find them, after 22yrs of owning my Highwayman bringing my kids up in it, And through the school hols ( I would go off leave husband, Take kids dog and go for weeks at a time Scotland, and tour France, My old Commer it still makes me Smile Big Time

Yes Sue,the sad looking coachbuilt Commer sat in that garden is a Commer Creighton, a handful built and none remain, as far as I know. Is that Aardvark on the road yet:p

I started with nothing.....and I still have most of it!

I bought the one that was in Scarborough :I Dry rot, wet rot, rust rot- all sounds about right [B)]

I didn't actually get it from Scarborough, It was in Doncaster when I got it. Apparently it had to be lifted out of it's resting place :I

Ok so did the Crighton get out of the garden ??? And the one from Doncaster was the floor in a sort of dust? and do you have a photo of that one, I cant think its the same one you would have had to flat pack and start again, Martin Watts may remember who I went to look at it for I cant, The dear Aardvark a roof light is the hold up , but my "Connie Camper" (My highwayman) had to have her engine done, and then I said "Put that wire there " when replacing the electronic ignition and fried it good and proper !! And lots going on in everyday life , enc a 1948 Guy Vixen horse box on the side lines! and a love of classic caravans, And so much more not enough time, but its almost there,

Pictures of the Doncaster Hadrian are here; http://66.129.69.181/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1112&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=hadrian
By the time I got it, the front end had been removed and a PB front 'stuck' on [B)]
Now we have 'Rosie' it has gone to the back of the list.
