A taste of what's to come......?

Hiya all,

Well Dave set out at 5.30 this morning to get the train down to London and pick up the van. I am still sat here with the kids waiting for him to get back!![xx(]

The poor thing is sat somewhere on the A5 waiting for the tow truck to come and pick him up. He got more than half way but then the poor old Colonel gave up the ghost! The first recovery guy said that it was some problem with the fuel or something technical that I have no understanding of!;)

We thought that he was going to make it home on a wing and a prayer with Dave stopping every hour to top up the oil and water, but it just wasn't to be.

To make matters worse apparently last night some vandals took to the van and sprayed graffitti on the side of it and broke the wing mirror.....nice.

So I think that we are going to need a lot of help and advice from you over the summer to get our poor old Commer up to scratch....I want to get at least one camping trip out of him this summer!

The first thing that I want to ask is about the paint colour. We want to paint the van two tone pale blue and white like Razor7's Wilma. Any advice on the correct colours that we will need please?:)

Sure it's a case of when - in the meantime if you rummage around the forum while you're waiting you might find a few epic commer collecting trips to cheer you;)

Best of luck with the Dandy Colonel, you have a really fabulous rare van there, really gutted to hear about graffiti and wing mirrors, don't these people know there may only be one of these left[:(!]

Not sure if these cross over from Imp to Commer at all - will leave it to better knowledge than mine to confirm, but these are rootes paint codes for the imp...

We have a 70s Dandy trailer tent in its' original colours which can grab a photo of once light improves - comes in coffee cream with two tone brown stripes - very 'of the period':)
If your van as cleverly worked out as the tent - you should have one great conversion

Ah, what a crap start to your adventures. :(

On the bright side, things can only get better!! Once you get the teething problems out of the way, Commers are pretty reliable, and I am sure you will get some great trips away before the end of the Summer!!
 
Hi zoe :) I don't suppose Daves back yet ? Ran drove from wales to hertfordshire when I first got her,but the previous owner drove her here,it wasn't until the last few miles when I had gone to meet her so they could follow me home that she started to boil over [xx(]We thought that would be that!
since then she had a new rad hose fitted,she went to yorkshire & back only having to stop once both ways [8D]Devon & back & tewkesbury & back somewhere in between I had to use her daily as my car was off the road for 6 mths she was the most reliable vehicle I had [^] so although they do need work tlc etc they can be used reliably.
Hope Daves not too late getting back...I don't think you will regret it The colnel looks great I still wish I could have had him ;)

Dave got back about 20mins ago.[^]

Poor thing is a bit grubby and road weary but he's back in one piece.;)

The Colonel is absolutely gorgeous, it has been love at first sight. He is in desperate need of some good lovin at the moment, but we knew that it was going to be a long-term project!

I video's the whole episode so will post a clip of his homecoming:p

We are waiting for our friendly neighbourhood mechanic to come round, he only lives next door but one so that is really handy.:p

There are loads of big and small bits and pieces that we are going to need so Dave is going to ask for quite a lot of advice from you all later on I think! ;)

We are still in love with the old Colonel though, the enormity of the project that we have taken on is still sinking in but there are no regrets! :D

We'll try to post some pics later on.

Don't worry, we had loads to sort out on Wilma, but once she was running she has never let us down...never. The Colonel look great! - just the type of Coachbuilt we would get if the garage was high enough! If you are interested Wilma was resprayed in Old English white on Jaquar powder blue. Glad you think looks good.
Well done on the purchase.
