Remember that pentastar badge on ebay I posted? well I bought the little Autosleeper badge that fits under the ventilator grille on the front of the van off the same seller. I've been chatting to him, Russell, on email since and he told me the story of the badges. They came off his families van 'Gertrude' and he spent many a happy holiday as a lad touring all over in Gertrude, a white sliding door '71 Autosleeper. About 1988 Gertrude moved on to another owner and nothing was heard of her for 4 years until by chance Russell spotted her unloved, dilapidated and partially stripped in a local scrappies[V] Unable to do anything else he recued what he could which consisted of the pentastar, the COMMER lettering and the little Autosleeper badge. He eventually decided to let his souveniers be of use to other Commers and listed them on Ebay, so if you bagged the beauty spot or the front lettering you now know it's history - I know that Harvey will be proud to wear his badge in tribute to a lost Commer soul:I
