No sign of a tax disc, so perhaps it has not seen the road for many years. Would it have been a works fire appliance, spending most of its days in a nice dry garage?

well - the sign on the side looks like it says Sanderson Brothers and Newbould Ltd - a little google magic gives this
http://www.sandersonsteel.com - now Sanderson Special Steels Limited, Sheffield.

Looks like a crew-cab, I wonder how many men they needed to tackle those little fires :)

It's always baffled me as to how early PA got cooling air onto the radiator as there's no grille. Anyone know?

Coming back from Le mans one year, it was 105 deg Fh trackside, and I'd forgotten to remove a Union Jack we'd draped over the bumper. Once moving it blew up over the air intake grille. We then had half an hour of coughing and spluttering due to the petrol boiling in the glass bowl on the fuel pump going down the motorway. When the hoses blew off the heater rad and blew superheated steam over our feet, we reckoned it was time to pull over for a look. This was strange as the brass stopcock on the head was turned off so the pressure of steam must have been fantastic. There was no water in the engine. Nothing; not a single drop and blue smoke was coming out of the radiator. We let it cool for half an hour and fuel was still boiling in the pump. I reckon if it had been dark it would have been glowing red hot. I think the other problem was that I'd foolishly topped up the rad with French water before we set off and it didn't like it. Fortunately we had some very large bottles of Buxton water which we filled her up with and had no more problems after that, though the bulbous end blew off somewhere and I've never seen it again. As they say, Commer; built stronger to last longer!
