I rang Speedys today to order my clutch plate....they phoned me back a bit later and told they have some good news and also some bad news...

the good news is (for me anyway) I have got my name on their last 8 1/2'' 10 spline clutch plate which is away being re-lined, but I will get it eventually

The bad news is they have NO more! they charge a deposit which is returnable when you post the old one back to them. Unfortuanatly people don't bother sending the old ones back to them so potentially its very bad news for them and for us......

there are a few places that will offer a re-lining service but that means you have to be without wheels for probably 10 days or so..

I can't tell anyone what to do but if any of you have a pile of old clutches clogging up the back of the garage then Speedys would be more than gratefull :D

I have the same problem with clutches and brake linings. People don't return the old ones, even though they have paid a deposit and I can't get them re-manufactured [V]

Speedys can't get them remanufactured either ........

Possibly an interesting note though.....according to the nice lady at Speedys...the 10 spline 8&1/2'' clutch plate is NOT a Rootes part! Rootes 10 spline is only 8'' ....

now which one you choose, should be determined by the clutch housing diameter...if you run an 8'' on the wrong housing, this will cause uneven wear and eventually score the housing...[V]

if you have a 8 1/2'' housing and want an 8 1/2'' plate then you will need a QH ref part C837 which is made for Vauxhall Victor FD 2.0L...Vauxhall Viva GT or Vauxhall VX490 .......
