"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

We should all be very wary of London`s LEZ as it may well spread like cancer across our land and ultimately put lots of classic cars and vans off the road forever. How pissed off would you be if you lived within the M25, not even in London! and have to sell your vehicle because Boris and his chums decide they want to "clean" up the air, which has actually rarely been cleaner than it is now since the abolition of leaded fuel and the advent of catalytic converters on petrol AND diesel vehicles. Classic and old cars produce virtually no pollution due to very limited use and modern clean burning fuels. Its just another example of us being told what we can and cant do in our "free and democratic" country.:(
Nice van though Martin[8D]

When was the last time London had a 'normal' Mayor instead of publicity seeking pillocks:I

Summer's well and truly done

That'll be Dick Whittington, who made it four times Lord Mayor of London, a Member of Parliament and a sheriff of London. In his lifetime he financed a number of public projects, such as drainage systems in poor areas of medieval London, and a hospital ward for unmarried mothers. He bequeathed his fortune to form the Charity of Sir Richard Whittington which, nearly 600 years later, continues to assist people in need;)

Just to clarify matters, Boris is not the Lord Mayor of London, he is Mayor of the Greater London Authority. The Lord Mayor is a completely different role and person.

Spare a Commer Guv?
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Here here Beachboy. Livingstone was a complete car hating p3n15, Boris doesn't seem much better to me. It's all revenue raising propaganda and yes, so much for a free and democratic country.

By the way, nice van Martin!

Don't know yet, the guy is driving it up from London, so one to watch out for :)

there was an article about this - plenty of older diesel campers needing conversion or pay £100 a day to be in the LEZ

Its just not on is it. Boris thinks we can all go out and buy a nice modern or new diesel vehicle that will run cleaner, but what about the people who cant afford a new vehicle? why should they have to sell there car van or camper or pay £100 a day to keep it even if its parked at the side of the road, the cost of converting a non compliant vehicle can be around £2k so who is going to pay that? This is outrageous and sadly we are all guilty of letting it happen. I am pleased for Martin getting a rare van but I am not so pleased for the previous owner who has had no choice but to sell his van whether he wanted to or not, this si not fair or right!quote:

This is a bit like the scrappage scheme except it it compulsory rather than voluntary, and takes no account of the embodied energy involed in building the vehicle in the first instance. How much pollution do these vehicles generate in service compared to that involved in their manufacture?

By all means introduce stricter standards for new vehicles, they will gradually replace the older vehicles and any problem will be addressed. If a few older vehicles carry on, then fair enough, let them. Their contribution to pollution will be minimal. The enforced removal of these vehicles will probably have negligible impact on the environment, but will cause a lot of hassle, inconvenience and cost to the like of us! [:(!]

Rant over, I'm off for a blast in the Jag! :D
