Just a quick post to let you all know that I am selling a 1978 Dodge Commer high roofed camper van on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181468254656&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:GB:1123

Hopefully the above link works, if not peles look at ebay. It was listed this evening on a five day auction.

Happy to try and answer any questions you may have about it either on ebay or on this forum.

Many thanks

Hi Jimbo and welcome to the Madhouse:D
Oh dear the poor thing looks to be quite a project:I The side door is very appealing to some and the chassis plate looks to be in good condition;)

Hi folks,
Confession time here. I, er, bought it. [:0]
There said it. Feel better now I think!

Been after one for a while and I was working on the theory of why pay more for someone elses filler and paint and just get an honestly rough one that I can do to my own standard. Ok it may be a bit more honestly rough than I'd even conceived possible, but theprice was right....

Oh and to add to the excitement the seller, said he'd had to move the other one off the driveway to get mine out (Oh dear I thought, I'm buying the spares van) but it turned out he wanted to sell the other one too, so not wanting to walk past a (slightly) better one to get the yellow one I bought that as well. Now the world is more Commer/Dodge shaped which balances out the Morris Minor emphasis a little and I'll have a big shopping list of bits.....

cheers
Iain

Excellent :) Your right about buying somebody else's filler, far better knowing what you are getting. Any pics of the second one [?]

Hi
Here's the Commer. Complete with big dent in the front, apparently sustained during a sea voyage to the Solomen Isles -shifting cargo in the hold... Not looked to see if the missing flutes round the lower edges are justfull of filler or previous welding yet!

After looking at lots of camper pics, I've established that its a Haylett Olympian, but not found anything about the high top Dodge yet. Anyone know whose conversion it is? It appealed originaly with the unusual layout with the kitchen across behind the cab seats and the seating and dining area in the back and entry via side door or rears.

Any tips on posting photos? I've resized it to 640x400 ish and it appears to upload ok but wont appear on the posting...

Found a pic of the Commer some years ago on travellerhomes website. It doesn't look quite as tidy as this now ;)

Certainly looks like a Haylett roof:)
I've looked at your post with the picture download and it looks OK, all I can suggest is you try it again.

It's certainly a Haylett roof in the second picture. It looks like a different van in the first picture , but welcome to the madhouse Iain. Good luck with your project, I know you will turn it back to its former glory.

The image name has brackets ( ) in and I don't think the code likes that!

Hi.
Thanks for the support folks. THe second (bonus!) one is indeed a Haylett - just spotted the dashboard sticker to that effect (after hours of research in camper books and online....:I

The first one, the yellow Dodge I'm still not sure of the builder. There's a faded sticker on the rear of the roof giving an address in Manchester.

The bashed in front on the Commer was apparently sustained in a ships hold on heavy seas on a trip to the Solomen Isles when it was only a year old. Could this be the furthest travelled? Its still rusty and doesn't work though, in fact just the sort of vehicle I tend to buy...:D

cheers
