1973 MOT'd Highwayman for sale

Hello all,

thought I'd let the good people of CVF have first notice of this before it goes the way of eBay.

We're selling our 5/6 berth 1973 Highwayman. A rethink of my fleet has brought this about. That's the bad news (good for the new owner). The good news is once she's sold, we're after a specific Commer camper, which we've identified. Yep, we're hooked.

Bessie Bus is not tax exempt, just missing the cut-off by a month. However, she is MOT'd until 27th July 2011 and currently on SORN.
She's ready to use if wanted and would serve well as a rolling restoration.

Since I bought her, she's been brought up to MOT standard and made reliable. She's basically solid underneath with a few areas that will need TLC in due course. Everything works, sink, 12v/gas/mains fridge, gas cooker. I've not used a mains supply on her though.
As reported previously, I spent a very comforatble weekend in her on the Classics monthly stand at Beaulieu Autujumble last September.

Engine is smooth (and previous big oil leak fixed), (non-overdrive) gearbox fine. She has a factory-fit electric engine fan and a non-standard heater from a modern idunnowhat.

Looking for £950 ono. Located 8 miles south of Bath, Somerset.
I'll post images ASAP. In the meantime this http://www.flickr.com/photos/patrick_castelli/4429752342/ shows her pretty much as she is now. These photos are not mine so please don't pester the chap who posted them on Flickr.

She's not perfect and that's reflected in the very reasonable price.
Feel free to ask any questions. Send me an email and I'll send pics.

Thanks for the positive replies so far, everyone.

I'd love to take you up on your offer Woolfy, but my Peerless is about to turn the corner from expensive street to overd(r)aft boulevard.

I'll post pics ASAP. Ran out of daylight hours today. Berths 5 & 6 are the optional bunks (not included, but the fittings are intact. Apparently they aren't very comfortable but two adapted aluminium camp beds will do the job equally as well). The two double beds offer decent 6'+ bedding. The longituidinal bed is very long. We reckon a family of five could use the Commer as it is. Three younger kids will fit in either of the doubles.

We'll be on the lookout for a*&*&*&^&**& *&**&*&*, Panky.;)

Sorry your Commer never made it, TelfordBob. I did try though. It's poignant reminder to ensure our insurance policies include salvage rights and agreed values. The difference in premiums is minimal or zero, so shop around and insist on them.
Bessie Bus would make an ideal project to use and fix at the same time.

Surely as its a coach built model it may well be built on a tax exempt chassis? whats the chassis number bessie bus?

Cheers,

Will

Hello Will,

trust me, she's not tax exempt. I pulled out all the stops to prove otherwise, but facts are facts.

All the best,
Gary

Many thanks for all the positive replies.
I started and drove her today for the first time since last December's cold snap kicked in. She started easily and sounds like the cliche sewing machine. If you've never driven a Commer, the Highwayman is easy to drive. Reversing is simple because you look through the central rear door. Eat that VW.

New pics posted on my flickr link, not the link in the first posting.[8D]
