You must admit it's alarming when information like this is posted and you are right to have you say, I for one will not block any replies or discussions unless it is libelous, is misleading or just gets out of hand - and I think it is wrong for RR to block you without giving a chance to tell your side of things. Out of concern Jon has copied what he has found from a guy who was actually the first to slam a van on here and did what seemed a proper job. Everyone has an opinion and some are more expert than others in certain fields, it is in the buyers interest to listen to both sides and make his own mind up - it is also the sellers moral duty to reveal all a vehicles faults and foibles, if both sides are happy then deal done.

So is the van sold or still for sale?

Sorry if i have upset you posting it, but there are alot of trustworthy people on this fourm who I have traded with over the time i have been on here.I feel its my duty to the commer van fan fans on here to read this description. I know many people are after vans and would hate it if someone that didnt quite know what ther were looking at brought something with all these faults going in blind with both feet first.
This van was a free van it may have been free for a reason or that someone didnt know what they had,Its not for me to comment as i havent seen it with my own eyes. But the welded and chopped springs would be enough to put me off. Just be carefull what you are selling as the money you are asking for it is a fair amount. If someone does get injured or is in an accident in this vehicle you could even end up in court which wouldnt be a nice place to be.
Be carefull ;)

It's a very difficult thing, making comments and observations about someone elses pride and joy. Jon is a very skilled and knowledgable guy and entitled to his opinion. I too have been castigated recently, for doing what I thought was right, in giving my opinion on a van that was for sale.
I aggree with Panky, that blocking anyones views is not right, as long as it's not libelous.
Equally, Gatt has been allowed to make his opinions known and neither will be blocked for speaking up.
Advice to anyone interested in this van, go and look at it yourself, and draw your own conclusions.

Free speach is a wonderful thing and we make the most of it on here, may it continue for a very long time.

The van is still for sale and all im asking is for people to judge the van for them self and not what this bloke has said about it !Because it nothing like what he has writing ...

the van looks nice enough in the pictures to me, so what if it has a few scabs here and there, they all have unless they have been fully restored.ive spoken to gatt and had dealings with him in the past and ive always thought of him being an honest kind of person who im sure wouldnt go out of his way to try and fiddle or worse harm anyone in the sale of the van. however whilst we are on the subject of lowering the vans surely the easiest way to lower the front of the van is to simply replace the coil springs with slightly shorter ones rather than cutting the originals. there is a spring company here in coventry ive used a few times over the years and the springs are cheap as chips. you ccan also get the van a bit lower by using low profile tyres where needed. thats all i did with my panel van, 225 70 15s on the rear and 205 70 15s on the front, job done.;):p

Problem is woolfmiester when you put shorted springs in it brings the suspension very close to the bump stops or near touching them if you go really low.Dont think anyone has really found a really good way of doing it but scrapping the hole suspension set up and making hole new set up. "HUT" has probably the best set up ive seen. Dave has fitted top and bottom ball joints with his own machined hubs hes a top man when it comes to things like that;)

Well the two lowered vans i have worked on recently have both had 1" or less of suspension travel. This is very bad engineering as once they bottom out then they are in a uncontrolled state, not to mention the shock loading/stresses on the rest of the vehicle :(
The RIGHT way to do it is to move the stub axle higher up the upright, lowering the van and still having the same suspension travel. Unfortunately this is also the hardest way as it means machining new uprights from scratch, or like HUT a properly thought out and engineered ball joint set up [^]
Failing that do as Woolfy says and get shorter springs made with the correct closed ends and lower profiles.
Steering and suspension geometry is not to be taken lightly as altering things without knowing the full story can have serious effects.

"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Many years ago a colleague of mine died in a crash resulting from suspension bottoming out, and that was in an unmodified car. (The particular stretch of road undulated in such a way as to make the suspension compress alot but only de-compress a little before the next compression).

It's an open forum, all opinions welcomed just how I like it. No one has been blocked or banned thus far because everyone most people have been mature as with this thread there are always two sides to any story :)
