Rewire time, what type of Alternator do I need to fit, and do new Alternators have built in voltage regulators any help appreciated.
 
I used a Lucas 17ACR, widely available and yes the R means they have an integral voltage regulator. Are you converting from dynamo? If so the conversion instructions are already on this forum somewhere.

I used a Lucas A127 type alternator. There are Chinese and Italian versions available. The lower cost ones are Chinese. You pay your money….

I’d use the one that has wiring that works easiest with your existing set up.

It has an integral regulator and I took out the old regulator and relays.

I bought a Lucas 127 ACR from Rat Sport today, and as the wiring is shot I am ripping all the old stuff out as there are bare wires everywhere, and then hopefully rewire the lot
 
Biggest improvement I ever got was adding the thicker charge cable from the extra alternator terminal (with the nut). Made such a difference to charging output on my van with lights, fan ect on. Never drops below 14v charge

Thanks for the tip. I have a wiring diagram here that I took off the site a while back as I am more mechanical than electrical is this the cable that runs from the alternator to the solenoid,, also do the same size cable run to the new fuse boxes
 
I have a remote starter solenoid on my van like in the picture. The old skool brown thin charge wires (from the alternator plug) run back to the battery side I think. On newer alternators such as the 127 there‘a also a nut to attached a large amp cable to go back to the relay (or battery) for charging. On my van with everything switched on charging would drop to low 12v’s but adding this cable it stays right up there underload. Might not be an issue for you though I guess.
You can probably tell I’m also not electric expert but get through it with Google :)

Thanks for the photo's, I now have a length of 70 amp cable to run to the the battery. I am waiting for the alternator to arrive then start with the basic wiring first.

I had forgotten about Mr Google.
