Hello new member here just taken delivery of my pb camper lots of work to do on it but been after a commer or a barkas for a while and this one's perfect! Going to wrap it up whilst I get a few other projects finished but plan is to rebuild from the ground upwards starting with a custom 4 link rear axle and front subframe raise ready for airride because I like my vehicles low!!

Eagerly waiting for the weekend to come so I can have a proper look over it and see what she needs.

Hi and welcome :)
This will be interesting, I likes a bagged van:cool: You thinking something along these lines

Exactly like that haha need to make sure it's drivable though.

I have a bodydropped lada aswell that is nearly ready for the road. Will possibly stick a thread in other projects

Bit of an update finally. My Lada is finished so the Commer can now get all of my attention. I'll include a picture of the lada and it'll give you an idea of what I like and the kinda style the commer will end up in.

I've cut and cut and cut. Not much of the rear end left now. I've messaged commervanspares for a quote on some parts and will continue once they arrive :) I will wait for the outer sills etc to be done before attempting the c notch.

Also I have sourced a wanderer roof which will need restoring but I'm looking.

Here is my lada I've been rebuilding. Floor welded and bare metalled. Chassis rails shortened. Air ride. Subframe raise. Toyota yaris steering rack conversion and a smoothed engine bay. She's been amazing since I had her on the road since May after being rebuilt over a 2 year period20220729_185348.jpg

One AvtoVas's finest products
The Commer looks a bit of a project so good luck with it and keep us posted on progress, you might want to put some bracing in before you cut any more

Yes good idea I haven't cut out anything that was intact enough to hold any weight yet but the plan is to drop the axle tomorrow and I won't be cutting anything more out until I can replace the sills now

If I knew it was this rotten I wouldn't have bought it haha but ahwell it'll be worth it in the end.

Surprisingly the chassis itself looks solid

Posting updates as it motivates me. Nothing serious today just installed some temporary lights to make it easier to work on and also gave it and the workshop a good clear out and hoover ready for them long winter nights.

Went to take my Lada to storage to get my Lada Niva ready for winter use, but it was misfiring badly and it turns out its done a headgasket so the lada is taking centre stage again for a bit.

Donor vehicle sourced.

Mx5 1.8 vvt engine. Just on the lookout for an auto box.

Also ive been doing a lot of thinking into alternatives into a 4 link and big c notch.

I'm now thinking of reasons why I can't use the mx5 front and rear subframes, arms, brakes, diff etc on the commer. Will certainly make finding parts etc easier and modernising the van

Its all I've been thinking about the last few days and I think I can get it to work.

The front track on the mx5 is 190mm wider which should still fit under the front tubs which ill be Modifying anyway, but could also chop out parts of the frame to shorten

Rear track only sits 18mm wider

Also i could use the mx5 prop if I sit the rear wheels 8mm further backwards than the original wheels.

Lots of headscratching to do. It'll be nice to have independent suspension on the rear and much more sourceable parts

Would be amazing, guess issue with the wider front is turning due to the enclosed wheels, even fitting slightly wider tyres can catch. I’ve got 205’s on 14” wheels and I still had to slightly roll the inner wheel arch lip

Good luck
