1964 Commer Walk thru engine number location

[64 Commer Walk thru]

Hi all. I own a 64’ Walk thru and I am trying to get her registered. It was previously registered in Tasmania, Australia as a school bus. But this was before computer systems so there is no record. I have the Chassis number KAL4035 000442 and the Triplex stamps on the windows state they were manufactured in 1964 in the first quarter of the year. It has a straight 6, 3 litre petrol engine (which I think is a Humber Super Snipe)
I am unable to locate the engine number stamped anywhere on the engine. I have found a lot of casting numbers. Is anyone able to help me out. This is the last piece of the puzzle before I can get her back on the road. Please!!

Thanks! I found the Engine number from the info that you sent me. What is stamped is CCCCBC. Which isn’t my chassis number. Do you or does anyone know where to locate the chassis number on the chassis?

Those CBC letters will be the bore designations. I think I'm right in saying that mass machining of blocks usually resulted in slight differences in the bores so each bore was measured and given a corresponding letter. During engine assembly the appropriate matching piston would be selected for the bore. So 5 of the 6 bores were within tolerance for a 'C' piston with the other requiring a 'B' piston.

Thanks! Very interesting. I also found a number stamped above the flywheel at the back of the engine 3CS951. But still haven’t been able to find the chassis number.

They are saying they need to see the chassis number that is stamped on the plate, stamped somewhere on the body. I know everything is original but I just can’t locate the chassis number. There is a lot of built up dirt, grease etc

Stamp your own on, they don't seem to know any better

Have you tried the Rootes Archive Trust? They may be able to tell you where the number is stamped, or whether there even was one stamped.

There certainly wasn't a chassis number stamped on either of my Karrier Bantam chassis. Basically out of the same stable as the Walkthru.

Just looking thro this - that chassis plate you've got a picture of is all they put on these, as far as I know - certainly all I've got on mine.
