1 carb question 1 dipstick question!

evening guys,sorry and girls evening
first question is this broken plastic pipe on the top of my carb waht is it and as its broken does it cause a problem?
second up is as you can see by my handy measuring can of red stripe[couldnt find my tape measure] the dipstick is small? i thought it should come up to the side of carb? any help would be great .

Cant really see from the carb pic, but all that looks wrong with the dipstick is that its missing the felt seal.

great thanks regarding the dipstick i was just curious as in the manual i have for the 1725 the pic has the dipstick next to the carb and as it sits now it is right down under the manifold
and the carb pic, right in the centre of the pic the plastic pipe has a broken end but perhaps it isnt much longer than that when new?
 
Plastic pipe is overflow/breather, safer if it has a long pipe that takes excess fuel down past exhaust. remember what happened to Admins van [:0]
Most dipstics are longer and fit into a bracket on inlet manifold. ;)
 
Rans dipstick is about twice that length :)come to mine and have a good look over her ;)

True as Martin states the plastic pipe is a overflow which needs routing out of the way, and the top of the dipstick should sit between the inlet manifold and the head. :)
 
Apparently the only visible way to tell the difference between 1500 and 1725 block is where the dipstick is - one for'ard and one aft. Can't remember which way round this eve:I but can have a gander tomorrow in daylight at both and see which is which and how long they both are.

a right couple of dipsticks - sorry didn't have can of red stripe to measure with - how boring am I?;)
Longer from 1725, shorter from 1500 both rootes blocks as far as I know. Hope proves useful

Fore and aft was more like port and starboard 1725 has dipstick poking between manifold and 1500 has other side between dizzy and oil filter low down in the block

Has the tube that the dip stick sits in broken off? maybe it has at some point and the dip stick has been shortened to suit. This happened to me and I had to use a piece of plastic tube to join the two halves of the tube together.

that is exactly what i think has happened as there is no tube and the "new" dipstick has some homemade marks
 
Are you loosing any oil? I wouldn't be surprised if it was coming up what is left of the dip stick tube [:0]
