    Clutch plates

Well that seems to have solved it - just run her back to the MOT station. Next problem is she's overheating  Seems to be running great - changed the temp sender and gauge yesterday as it seemed warm the other day but blamed it on the gauge. I know the thermostat isn't in it. But should...

    Clutch plates

Fair play - imagine i'd need physio after attempting that. Turned out to be what I guess is a standard 8" fine spline. I hedged my best and had one on order which came just as I dropped the box. Tom

It's putting me through the ringer this rebuild! Well got the new clutch plate in today. Gonna have some bruises! Gravel drive and gearbox drops don't mix :(

hello, that is interesting. One of the linings fell off the shoe when I removed the drum... they are low but I wouldn't have replaced them just yet. New set on order! Tom

    Clutch plates

yeah got the sort of slot on cap - not sure if I run out of adjustment, tricky to see how far the piston moves when setting up. Guess push em home get the shoes just biting before anything is touched.

Your thoughs on first driving a Commer.

First drive was 100 miles back home with no MOT yet I was presently surprised. The lack of steering and brakes was expected after owning an old MG which was almost as fuzzy but what with the extra feature of being rather slow I felt safe on our quiet country roads. However city life and a commer...

    Clutch plates

Well got the van back - so tomorrow I'll pull the box and take a peek. Should be nice day for it unlike last weeks fun and games in the rain. Got the MOT fail list from 4 pages down to just a leak on the rear brake cylinder. So with brake fluid pissing out and a horrifically slipping clutch...

    Clutch plates

Hello, Hope everyone's enjoying the liquid sunshine! Going to do a clutch this week on the highwayman. It's '71 but has the alloy head engine in - with a 4 speed box. I assume it's got the original box and prop on so a fine splined plate? Which I believe is 8". I seem to find plates listed...

    Don't hate me - not a commer

Yes saw that. I have tried reading the page but it's so convoluted I never get to the bottom of it! I'm very familiar with audi/vw stuff so feel a bit more confident going that route, I recon I can do the engine/box conversion for under £500 myself. 'Cost of the Ford engine is £2,990, Gearbox...

    Don't hate me - not a commer

Looks great. Would love to see some pics once completed. So you are sticking with the original petrol and 3 speed? Mines got a 'new' diesel engine and box coming with it. But i'm thinking of dropping an Audi lump and box in. As it's a project all based on final retail price i'll have to think...

    Don't hate me - not a commer

In a bid to make some money from restoring rust buckets I just went and bought this. Hopefully with much more optimistic margins than many old vans the 12 months graft will actually bear fruit.... lets see!

    don't hate me...

I used to drive into central London from mid Wales regularly to make deliveries in my mk1 LT35. That was only a few years ago. Then I bought a 'new' transit. I cannot believe I used to do that! And would never go back  Keeping my fingers crossed for you ;)

    Project No.2 - Highwayman

Yes I changed them the minute i got it. Made a vast difference. Not to say since all the coming and going I haven;t damaged them again. I'm gonna strip the pump on charlie this week as there's is a leak around there which needs addressing. I'll give it a good once over. Cheers as always!

    Project No.2 - Highwayman

Lots of food for thought there. I just ordered the stromberg adjustment tool - £12 for an allen key by the looks of things! So i'll see how I get on for now. I see you fitted a electric water pump on one of your commers Panky. The flow on charlie looks very week although he seems happy. Do you...
