    Inlet Manifold - Alloy head

That's an idea - I take it there is a common rail connecting all the take offs if you see what I mean... I assumed each carb only supplies just 2 cylinders. I think I've got a plan. As Charlie's is running great yet his gearbox/clutch isn't quite right I think i'm going to pull his engine - put...

    Inlet Manifold - Alloy head

Well - no. Not really. It's not right. Bottom line is this van is going to be working. I need it to be ultra reliable. I'm fairly confident the carbs are at the bottom of it. So before I spend any further time on it I want to get an SU on there so I know I have the fueling side sorted. Charlie...

    Swap opportunity?

Hi guys, Just thinking about options. I have an alloy head, twin stromberg lump here in my highwayman. It's not running right. I think it might be me more than it tbh. But with time very tight atm I'd happily rip it out and drop in a running cast iron headed lump any day - with a SU even more...

Anyone got something that runs, looking for something as a stop gap while I rotate and rebuild. Nice to have something with distro /carbs basically ready to drop in...

A Frame towing - heads up

Hello all, We've been dragging one of the commers on a car transporter trailer recently for hire work. Bit sick of the lolloping about of a heavy trailer so investigated towing A frames to take advantage of lower center of gravity and better stability. I took a punt after taking advice from...

    Clutch plates

Well... Had to get the van to Sophs second ever gig on the Saturday. Core plug didn't show on the Friday. A quick phone round found a car transporter trailer. Then fashioned a temp plug with 2 washers so I could load the van onto the trailer and shunt about with at least some coolant. Got to...

    Spotted Mid-Wales

Cadair Idris is lovely - not too mental, half our 'crew' managed a box of cider on the way round! We did Snowdon earlier in the year, lots of snow, ice and fog - my god I was terrified. Wont be doing that again in a hurry. Tom

    Clutch plates

Well I set the garden hose up with a reducer down to a 4mm hose which gave a good jet and enabled me to feed it right up, around and through the water jacket from that core plug hole. The gunk seems to have been particularly built up in the bottom back corner where I removed that (only really...

    Clutch plates

Bloody hell!! Thanks for all the pointers guys. I flushed the system twice yesterday with cleaner, gave it an overnight soak in vinegar for good measure. Replaced the rad with Charlie's... still running very hot but perhaps marginally better. Got some oxalic acid coming tomorrow and some core...

    Clutch plates

Well it was a luvly weekend as it turns out - hope was as nice for everyone else. Although I did have this overheating on my mind. Just had a chance to take a look see. Stuck the garden hose on the radiator - seems to have a good flow through top to bottom - can't see any obstruction here...

    Clutch plates

hmmmm, yes i'm 99.9% the gasket is correct as I had previously seen this 'problem' with others. Seems very good flow when you look into the rad from the filler. God knows . Any words of wisdom on a course of action when I start delving on my return from bank holiday break...

    Clutch plates

Well I never had it on the road and tbh on tickover it seems happy now and before with regards to temp. I did the head as it was running so roughly. I've only taken it on a couple of runs with a working temp gauge and temp quickly rises once i'm on the open road. Tom
