    1500 vs. 2500

Hi I haven't checked this yet but as our Commer is a minibus originally, I think it's a 2500 (according to Mr Osylager). I understand that campers were based on 1500, meaning softer suspension and I would guess more wallowy handling ? Can anyone tell me how they compare in terms of driving /...

I just bought some 15" van tyres (195) and had them fitted at the local tyre place - didn't know about the K part ! Maybe we got lucky. Incidentally we have a set of 4 55-profile 15" tyres for sale if anyone's interested. There's loads of tread, hardly used, but the profile is just a bit low...

    1972 Commer PB

Our local fella estimated £3,500 for a respray, so we'll be rollering paint on for a few hundred quid instead when the time comes. This looks fab, Saul ! Anyone else tried rollering? I saw that a fella had painted his morris minor with coach paint ( http://www.craftmasterpaints.co.uk/) , and he...

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

got the van back on Saturday, as well as my wife's lovely now-restored Moggy minor, which is fantastic :-D As I had only driven the Commer with a flaky head gasket and in need of some tappet adjustment (I thought that's just what they were like!), driving him now is a bit of an eye opener...

Yes! You could add rollerskates to each levelling foot and call them stabilisers !

Auto levelling great idea. My sis has that on her posh a-class motorhome.. it lifts the whole van up so if you nedd to change a tyre etc, you have a built in jack ! I'd go for that too ☺

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

Having experienced it several times before, I can't bear the stress of a maybe-blown head gasket so have sent him off to be sorted. The fella says the bores nd bottom end are in great nick, as are the valve seats. So a few pennies spent .. hopefully all the mystery removed.

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

No water drippjng from under van at all - phew! But... mystery solved. Water is pressurised after all (radiator cap was holding it in i guess), so looking like it's the head gasket. I guess it must be leaking into the cylinder or something cos the oil still isnt all that mayonnaisey. this also...

straight sides (coachbuilt too cumbersome for my taste), nice smooth, quiet engine- a real motorway-eater. I'd love to fit a triumph 2500 but think the engine bay is too short. Overdrive, light colour so as not to get hot in summer, loads of wood inside, nicely varnished. Utterly waterproofed...

zoiks! and that is a very good tip, thanks because the cover was in a right old state. Only just enough 'pipe' bit left to get the rubber hose on.

    anyone tried this ?

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

Ah I see- didn't know about that plug. ugh what a pain! I haven't seen anything dripping but will check for it. I'm suspicious of my thermostat replacement, but there's no dripping around the casing etc.. might be that the water is evaporating too quickly. We have a o/d gearbox to put on at...

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

No I haven't, good point. Although if the water isn't pressurised then I suppose it may not reveal anything. Wouldn't hurt to do a test though. re "Have a look underneath and see if there's anything dripping from the gearbox bell housing - hopefully not." - I guess this is looking for a cracked...

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

Dodgeram - presumably that's only if the engine is breathing a bit (worn rings) though? Or is that still the case on a squeaky new engine ? Still can't work out where all the water is going. no sign of a leak, and it's now getting worse. I put a couple of pints in to top it up yesterday and...
