Remove the dizzy and see if the drive is turning in the engine when cranked over. If not oil pump drive has sheared, has happened before.

Missing insulator gasket will be causing some problems, the carb will be heating up causing the fuel to evaporate.slow running jet is a big brass screw on the drivers side of the carb.

Have you checked the slow runnng jet is not blocked? Also is there an insulating gasket between the carb and manifold?
