    700 mile Pootle...

Will look further into seals thanks. I sorted the overdrive after work tonight. Problem was dirty contacts inside the solenoid so the pull-in coil wasn't powering. Stripped the whole solenoid down, cleaned and greased it all up with a new power wire and Robert's your mother's brother. Zero cost...

    700 mile Pootle...

Excellent stuff thanks Panky. Does anyone have views/experience of replacing/improving the seal on the engine cover. The rubber on Pootle is pretty shagged and needs some attention so probably needs a replacement....

    700 mile Pootle...

Hello all. We have just returned to Surrey after a 700 mile round trip to the Lake District. We had plenty of 'weather' but no significant Commer problems. No oil or water needed and engine ran very well. The overdrive packed up towards the end of the trip - relay clicks OK but solenoid doesn't...

    Differential oil leak

Thanks for the link Panky. Getting the nut off in a similar way should be OK if air hammer doesn't do it. Getting it back tight with a torque wrench probably won't happen but I'll seal it with locktite. I know it needs to stay in place but setting the nut ball-breaking tight when the drive is...

    Differential oil leak

Hi. Oil leak from front of diff on Pootle is now quit bad so need to replace oilseal I guess. Is it a big job? Drop shaft, then what?

    Clutch replacement

Everything back yesterday an all good apart from overdrive not coming in despite solenoid operating... Initial panic then consideration over a cup of tea.... To stop oil leaking out of back the box had been kept 'pointing down' when in garage and van was also pointing down the drive for...

    Clutch replacement

Well the complete clutch with bearing came from Speedy with the roller bearing release jobbing. It fits the fork really well but the retaining clips from the Old graphite bearing won't fit. Looking on Sunbeam service manual suggests some circular spring clips part 16...

    Clutch replacement

After trawling the interweb I think there should be a couple of clips to hold the carrier and I will get a pair. Actually, once fitted there isn't much of a gap between the bearing and diaphragm spring so the carrier can't actually move far anyway...

    Overdrive gearbox rear mount

Someone recently asked about rear mount for overdrive gearbox? Here are some pics of Pooytles bracket whilst out for clutch replacement. I hacked the old bracket and then went OTT with angle iron for a rigid bottom support...

    Clutch replacement

One concern though is new bearing and carrier. Old carrier had round trunnion and clips to hold it in place. However the new bearing carrier doesn't have fully round trunnion and clips won't fit. Should there be some sort of retainer or does it rely on clutch plate stopping carrier moving...
