Back of the garage

Took one of the back doors off and stripped it. The bottom was pretty good but there were a few rusty bits.

Gave it the De-ox gel treatment

That got rid of a lot but there was some lurking in hard to get places

Hmmmmm

An ideal citric acid bath :)

And it should get to the rust inside too, pity I didn't have one big enough to get the whole door in.
I'll leave it pickling over night an see how it does.

That worked OK :)
After a wash and a tickle with the wire wheel

Next up was a repair to the window frame

Choppy choppy

A repair panel made up of a couple of sections

And clamped into place

I'll weld it in tomorrow when the etch primer is dry
That's all for now.

Know the feeling. Poor old detector van is languising away in the workshop waiting for woolfy to bring me the floorpans[:(!]
I had a similar feeling this morning and decided it was about time I sorted out all my commer bits. They were all over the place after moving house last year, but finally they are all re-united in the new garage, along with the pickup and PO van.
I still need to sort out what I have got, but I have managed to fill over 100sq ft of new shelving.[:0]
Are you still in Yorkshire Martin and selling parts I may need to have a chat if you are.

Martin concentrates on panels these days but he might have stuff still around. Best to PM him or catch him on the Facebook group I Love Commer Campers - if you're into that sort of thing.
If he hasn't got what you need try Speedy Spares of Brighton, they stock most mechanical items.

Now it's cooled down a bit and the new shed (replacement for old knackered one) is built and filled with stuff that came out of the old one
I managed a couple of hours on Harvey.
Started chopping off the old peak and I found a message I left for posterity many years ago

I think I've been here before

Still got loads to remove but I think the neighbors have had enough for now;)
I did this repair before Martin was producing his peak panels so now I have the proper sections to do a decent repair I'll be a lot happier putting my name to the finished job :)

It fought me all the way but the inner peak is off, what's left of it

A lot of grot hiding at either end

I started on the passenger side and removed the top corner of the outer frame

He feels better for that :)

Also cut the inner frame section and door frame closing plate out to repair behind it

The frame cleaned up better than I expected

Part of the repair section I got from Martin years ago

Trimmed and clamped in place

I've daubed paint stripper on the window frame to be ready for fitting the new inner peak but that's for another day:)

Are you enjoying it ??
This is the bit I hate less ;) It's quite a complicated repair and I do enjoy working out how it goes together amid all the rust and rot and it's very pleasing when it's all cleaned up and ready to go back together. Still got some investigating to do around where the new inner peak attaches to the top of the door frame as there's still some rust in there hiding what it looked like originally. The other side is probably worse so no reference points:rolleyes:

keep us updated with your progress with pictures if possible really interesting

Oops

It was only held on with a couple of spot welds on the drivers side so I moved it out of the way

I can clean it up and repair where necessary more easily now.

Time to sort this lot out

A spot of rust

A bit more cut out

Looks much better cleaned up with the major rot cut out. The rest of the top frame is fine with just some surface rust to wire wheel and treat.
More tomorrow:)

I've been doing a few other jobs like fitting new spring eye bushes to Bonnies rear springs and repairing Ted's uncomfortable seats but I managed an hour on Harvey today.
Another short section of gutter was cut out as it was rust holed and I decided to put a brace in before I went any further

I started making the first repair panel and offered it up.
Still a bit of trimming and tweaking to do before it's welded in. I used 1.5 mm plate as this panel was double skinned in places but I didn't want to recreate that particular rust trap

FGrORxI.jpg

I'll finish it of tomorrow :)
