Disconnect the fuel line and let it run out, (I use a clean bucket and then use the fuel up in the lawnmower). The sender is mounted higher up, so removing that won't allow it to all drain out!Hi all have decided to remove the fuel tank ,what is 5he best way to remove the fuel that is still in the tank before removing the tank . if I remove the fuel sender will 5hat allow fuel to drain out completely ? 1961 petrol engine

have u a 61 commer too? petrol engine , what model, also would my 61 have the handbrake operate the rear wheelsDirectly at the tank! My '61 tank was in surprisingly good condition when I took it out last year.
Or can just go for a long drive….to reduce how much fuel you need to catch when you disconnect the pipe to the fuel to pump. Changed mine to a Tim Commer ally one. Was leaking at joint where you connect the fuel feed. Hi mate , I don't really want to drive it with the petrol that's in it as it's been sat for about 4months and I have heard that the ethanol petrol if left sitting can create a lot of moisture , do u think it would be ok to drive with petrol that old ? the sad thing about getting older is I get more sensible
Yes, we have a '61 car camper. Yes, you will have a rear wheel handbrake, (assuming nothing has been changed about).have u a 61 commer too? petrol engine , what model, also would my 61 have the handbrake operate the rear wheels
The fuel outlet is on the bottom of the tank on the front side, the pipe on right hand side near the top is a vent that goes back to the filler neck. You'll get must of the fuel out of the fuel outlet but there will always be dregs left, make sure you have a short piece of fuel hose, blanked off at one end, ready to block the outlet so the dregs don't dribble out when removing the tank.is that pipe on the bottom or up higher at the side ? will it let all the fuel out were its positioned
hi panky do I not want the dregs to come out, I wont be reusing the fuel except in maybe an old lawmpwer Allso I am replacing the thermostat do I have to drain the whole systemThe fuel outlet is on the bottom of the tank on the front side, the pipe on right hand side near the top is a vent that goes back to the filler neck. thanks panky , one more ? , I am replacing the thermostat , do I have to drain the cooling system?Eventually yes but if you're removing the tank then you don't want what's left inside dribbling down your arms while you're working underneath, it's far easier to drain the rest once the tank is out.
No don't need to drain the lot. You will loose some but only a litre or so. Unless you are replacing the coolant as well, which might be a good idea along with giving the system a good flushing out. thanks panky I,v done a replacement of the coolant a few months ago so was hoping I could get away with just replacing the thermostat without losing the coolant I know I should of done the thermostat at the same time , I was hoping that with the engine not being started for a while that the coolant level would be below the pump , i may just flush it again but it's a pain as I don't have a tap close enough to do it , I may get away just emptying and refilling with fresh coolant as it was only done recently , do I have to torque the bolts when refitting plus I didn't get replacement gasket with the thermostat , I bought the stuff in the picture ,do u think it will do ? hopefully the old gasket can be reused with this stuff .
thank u pankyIf it's new coolant and you're not having overheating issues then I'd just top it up as required. If the gasket comes off without breaking or splitting then a smear of sealant will be OK but always better to fit a new one if you can. Don't go mad with sealant - a light smear will be enough.
