It won't get much hotter unless you take it out for a good run. The water temp should get up around 85/90 degrees.

any idea how this works, I know it's the heater but have they all got the thing that looks like a button on the front , the next thing is what looks like an old style sink chain the goes into the engine compartment ,unfortunately it is snapped so dont know where it goes to, last ? I took the van for a quick 15 minute drive in and around a few estates and the water temp did t really go up same with the oil but that went up to about 65

Looks like a normal heater box, the 'button' in the centre is just the moulding of the case around the heater fan motor. Not sure about the chain but it could be what's left of a radiator blind. They were a popular accessory in the 60's to help the engine warm up quicker in the winter, the chain pulled a roller blind up in front of the radiator restricting the air flow though it.
65 degrees is a bit cool - maybe there's no thermostat fitted in the cooling system but I wouldn't worry about it just yet unless you intend to drive it a lot through the winter.

yeah there is still a radiator blind there its rolled up , I am a bit paranoid about using the heater because of it using the coolant , would there be any chance of it blowing coolant fumes thru the heater fan ? its probably a silly ? , as for the temperature maybe I didnt drive it far enough less than a mile with 2 stops , I will give it a better run another day, I hope to drive the van most days as I believe they should be driving. How many miles would it take to bring the temperature up to the 80 plus degrees , thanks again panky

The heater doesn't use up the coolant it circulates through it like another radiator - like central heating at home, think of the engine as a boiler and the main radiator and heater as the system radiators in a central heating system. The only way coolant fumes can get in the van is if there's a leak somewhere and even then the fumes won't hurt you.

great panky that's good to here, I probably didnt take it on a long enough drive to get the temperature up

The teeth are there so belt can curve tighter as opposed to fitting onto a cog. Someone will correct me if that’s incorrect :)

another ? can I fit wit any termastat , what will fit it , also the spare thing thats not connects to the water pump I,m wondering is that why my temperature gauges are reading so low would that have anything to do with it if it's not connected , once again thanks for the help

Here's the one from Speedy Spares
Go to the Commer PB tab and scroll down to the cooling system - QTH102 £5 + p+p

or any Morris Minor stat. 88 degrees for winter and 82 for summer if the engine is getting a bit too warm. I don't think he minor gasket will fit though.

thanks panky I was just asking if any other stat would fit because I am having problems getting car parts thru the post since Brexit, the only way I seem to be able to get them is by using a courier, I really should of got these parts with my last order from martin, so I am going to write a list of parts I may need and go with a courier if I cant get themhere in Ireland. Now I am afraid to drive the van in case it would overheat without the stat, would u recommend not driving it without the stat

The thermostat only tells you the temperature and doesn’t turn the fan on or open any valves. It would be better to have a working thermostat. You could always drive around with the heater on but if it’s all running ok then it’s probably only going to overheat stuck in a traffic jam in summer. As you’re concerned about overheating risk you will probably worry not being able to know the temperature :)

another ? I see that one of the arms in the picture is broken ,would that affect the reading of the other arm
