Gear linkages

Hi boys and girls,
Looks like my gear linkage has failed at the knuckle that’s located under the gear stick, where it goes horizontal. What holds the vertical linkage to the horizontal shaft? Is there meant to be a clip or just holds on with the knuckle?
Any cheat fixes for this? Trying to avoid buying anything from out of Australia due to delivery times. Thanks
 
The screw should be wired also I think, I’ve had this fail on me before. If it isn’t drill it and wire it to prevent it happening again
 
Thanks guys! I got to have a quick look at that link but now isn’t working. I see the screw you are talking about but that’s for the horizontal shaft. What holds in the gear stick/vertical shaft?
 
I can't see anything that physically holds the end of the gear lever into the ball socket at the bottom. It can start flopping about if the bush on the end of the change speed rod get worn. The bush is in a split housing at the very front of the change speed rod and can be a bit of a sod to change.
I've scanned the diagrams, hope this helps

Thanks Panky, that’s what I was thinking.
the change speed rod was held in by the support bracket. That was all rusted but was enough to hold it all together. When I cut the support bracket area out to repair some rust, the change speed rod fell out.
 
Ouch. I guess you will need to be really accurate when replacing the support bracket and bush otherwise the gear change will be even sloppier than usual.
 
Hey Panky, quick question, what’s the shift pattern? Guessing it’s the standard H pattern. Iv had to modify the gear linkage so having problems finding them again. When putting the cover back on the top of the gearbox, I’m guessing all the linkages should be in a line, and the gear stick locates into the middle. That’s my understanding of the manual.
 
Yep standard 'H' with reverse over to the right and down. Unless it's a very early 3 synchro box where reverse is left and up. It will take a bit of fiddling to set it up once it's been disturbed.
