Patch panel ideas

I need to make some repair panels for the rear corners, and the originals go all the way to the outer panels and spot weld there im assuming. It seems to be a problem area for moisture. I was thinking of making my flange just short of that and welding the flange of my panel to the actual inner horizontal body flange. Which looks like a much drier location, as well as being able to replace the outer corners later without disturbing the inners. Can anybody with experience tell me if there are any reasons not to do it this way?

That seam has multiple layers - The inner sill curves round and is the main strength also the floor, lower corner and upper corner panels all meet at that joint so it is a pretty strong area. I think the repair you are planning will be fine, just make sure the chassis rails underneath are sound as they add strength to the spring hangers.

I found the curved rail. I can do it my way and still have the panel set on it. The outrigger and the chassis is solid as, so no worries there
