J2 windowless van, dunno what year this is but its got a lot of rust, not sure what to do with it yet..

What front end is a replacement for these?? also engine swaps etc... may end up as a burnout car or just a show cruiser rather than a resto, as this would be way beyond my financial capabilities ;)
 
Hi Bruce and welcome to the Madhouse:D Ignore your friends it looks great.
I'm not too clued up on BMC vans as we're a Commer site but we welcome everyone and will try to help if possible:) I'm pretty sure an MGB engine will go in without too much trouble and there's all sorts of nice tuning bits available for them - overdrive as well. Tim (commeracer on here) has a J4 with a race tuned MGB lump in it and that surprises most modern stuff at the lights;) I also know of a J2 camper conversion with a standard one fitted but that's not running yet.
There are quite a few Aussie Commers that have been fitted with big six pots so I can't see why that can't be done to a J2, you just need to be inventive.

Thanks muchly ;) the tow truck is another project but is good for camping etc, lots of people go the burnout route with chev Ls1's.... but since it's still complete i want to try to get it running as a standard van and go from there. will be a slow build as i have many .. many other cars waiting.... ;)

Welcome Bruce! I like the Bedford CA. We had one of those when I was a kid. Yours looks like 1964ish. You have a nice litttle collection there.

I think the J2 used a 1500 BMC 'B' series, hence why the MGB engine id an easy swap.

Hi Bruce, here's the J2 I'm currently working on, you'll need to look for another plate on the plugs side of the top of the engine, the first 2 digits give the engine size, 16 on mine means 1600. As Panky says though, I'm thinking about an MGB with overdrive

unfortunately the camper is way past saving, pretty much nothing holding the body onto the chassis and roof is just sitting there, even has the perkins deisel 4cyl there. nothing but garden art now :(

Anything is save able with time and money..... Nobody ever has both though :(
 
Your J2 panel van is totally awesome.
I bought a new old stock Desmo roof rack from an old boy up north a few months ago.
He had a tenanted field with out buildings with lots of man cave stuff that his farther originally had 100+ years ago
He rocked up in a J2 minibus that his parents bought brand new!!!
It was totally totally mint and unrestored
The J2 club heard about his mint 40,000 mile bus and displayed it for him last year at a car sho at the NEC in central England.
He said the club told him there we 12 J2 busses left in the UK so you have a rare beast.
Not only did the old boy spend two hours showing me round his 6 garages and two small barns which amongst other things contained a mint 62 Ford Consul he last drove on the road in 1977 but still takes it up the side driveway.
He also explained with a smile he had never sent a text or email in his life.
His old brick phone had 32 messages on it which his daughter in her 50's reads out to him every now and then
Top bloke I say, can't stand all this face butt social media tosh.
Will post some J2 pictures from my phone as soon as I can figure out how to do it

P.S you would be surprised what is and isn't worth saving. Your garden art is very early and very collectable
Sold my 67 Split screen VW 2 years ago and the chap that bought it spent £35,000 on restoring it
So I reckon at some point your garden art will be restored
